1. NASA announces Artemis III crew

  • On June 9, the American space agency NASA announced the names of four astronauts for the Artemis III mission.
  • The crew includes Commander Randy Bresnik, Pilot Luca Parmitano, Mission Specialists Andre Douglas and Frank Rubio.
  • Pilot Luca Parmitano is from Italy while the other three astronauts are American citizens.
  • Astronaut Bob Hines has been nominated as the backup pilot. They will take training along with the main crew.
  • This crew of four members will test the lunar probes of Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin in space for the first time.
  • Under the Artemis III mission, astronauts will not land on the Moon, but will revolve around its orbit.
  • Artemis III is scheduled for 2027 and is considered one of the most complex manned space missions ever.
  • The Artemis III mission aims to land humans near the Moon’s south pole. This mission will lay the groundwork for future human missions to Mars.
  • Earlier on April 1, NASA had launched Artemis II mission.
  • Artemis-II recently broke Apollo 13’s record for the longest distance by orbiting the Moon.

2.Vabjaz Auto Managing Director Rajeev will resign

  • According to Bajaj Finserv’s exchange filing, Bajaj Auto Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj will resign from the board.
  • Rajeev will step down from the post of director after the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on July 31.
  • Rajiv has taken this decision to reduce his responsibilities and focus on the automobile business.
  • The company has established Bajaj Auto Technology Limited and Bajaj Auto Credit Limited.
  • Rajeev has also stepped down from the post of non-executive director of Bajaj Finance in April.
  • Bajaj Auto is currently one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in India.
  • Rajiv is the son of Rahul Bajaj, who played a major role in establishing Bajaj Auto among automobile brands.
  • Rajiv joined the company’s board on March 5, 2002 and took over as Managing Director of Bajaj Auto in April 2005.

3. Reliance and Meta will build India’s first AI data center

  • On June 10, Reliance Industries has partnered with Meta for AI data center.
  • This is Meta’s first data center. It will be established in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
  • The capacity of this data center will be 168 megawatt (MW).
  • This data center will be ready in the next 2 years.
  • According to Meta, this data center will run on renewable energy and will use desalinated sea water for cooling.
  • This will be the first ‘built-to-suit’ data center of its kind in India.
  • Meta invested $5.7 billion in Jio Platforms in 2020.
  • In 2025, both the companies also partnered to develop Llama AI model based enterprise AI solution.
  • India is one of Meta’s biggest markets, with millions of users across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.

  • On June 10, Indian tennis player Srishti Kiran achieved number one in the under-13 tennis ranking.
  • Srishti has received this ranking after winning 5 consecutive ITF Circuit Junior titles.
  • Srishti started playing with the Karnataka State Loan Tennis Association at the age of 4.
  • Srishti became the youngest player to win the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Under-10 Championship in 2024.

4. Tamil director Bharathiraja passes away

  • Tamil director Bharathiraja passed away on June 10. He was 84 years old.
  • Bharathiraja started his career in 1977 with the film ’16 Vayathinile’.
  • Bharathiraja’s major films include ‘Kizhakke Pogum Rail’, ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’, ‘Alaigal Oivathillai’, ‘Kaadhal Oviyam’ and ‘Mudhal Mariyathai’.
  • Bharathiraja has also directed some Hindi films like ‘Solvan Sawan’ (1979), ‘Red Rose’ (1980) and ‘Savere Wali Gaadi’ (1986).
  • In 2004, Bharathiraja was awarded the Padma Shri for his contribution to Indian cinema.

5. Campuses of 3 foreign universities will start in India

  • On June 10, the Education Ministry issued Letters of Intent (LoP) to three leading foreign universities to open campuses in India.
  • In the presence of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Secretary of Higher Education Department and UGC President Dr. Vineet Joshi handed over these approval letters.
  • These universities include Bristol (University of Bristol), York and UNSW (University of New South Wales).
  • University of Bristol and University of York will set up their campuses in Mumbai.
  • University of New South Wales will start its campus in Bengaluru.
  • These campuses will have the facility of international faculty and global syllabus.
  • Universities will start syllabus in business, computer science, cyber security, finance and other sectors.
  • This step is part of the National Education Policy. Now there will be 5 foreign higher educational institutes in India.
