1. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visits India
- On May 24, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Indian Foreign Minister S. A high level meeting was held between Jaishankar in Delhi.
- Issues of trade, energy, regional security and movement of people were discussed in the meeting.
- There was discussion between the two countries on pursuing ‘Mission 500’ i.e. the goal of doubling trade by 2030.
- Rubio described India as America’s ‘most important strategic partner’.
- Visa issues and security of legal migration were also discussed at the meeting.
- Both the leaders have expressed hope for a big trade agreement in the future.
- Rubio also discussed increasing energy supplies with Indian Prime Minister Modi.
- Rubio will be in India from May 23 to May 26. During this period he will visit Kolkata, New Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.

The meeting of Marco Rubio and S Jaishankar is the first top level meeting after the tariff war between India and America.
2. RBI transferred record surplus to the government
- The Reserve Bank of India has approved giving Rs 2.86 lakh crore to the Central Government for the financial year 2025-26.
- RBI transfers a part of its profits to the government every year as dividend.
- Rs 2.86 lakh crore is the largest surplus transfer till date.
- Last year, RBI had approved transfer of surplus funds of Rs 2.68 lakh crore.
- The information about this record fund transfer was made public on 24 May.

3. Gurinderveer Singh became India’s fastest runner
- On May 24, Gurinderveer Singh created a new national record in the Federation Cup held in Ranchi.
- Gurinderveer Singh became India’s fastest runner by completing the 100 meter race in 10.09 seconds.
- He has broken Animesh Kujur’s record of 10.18 seconds. Animesh Kujur had made this record in Odisha last year.
- 100 m. The world record for the race (9.58 seconds) is in the name of Jamaican runner Usain Bolt. He made this in 2009.
- Gurinderveer Singh has also qualified for the Commonwealth Games 2026. The qualification mark for the Commonwealth Games is 10.16 seconds.
Gurinderveer Singh of Punjab also broke the record of legend Milkha Singh.

4. India issued advisory for three African countries
- On 24 May, the Government of India issued a travel advisory for Congo, Uganda and South Sudan.
- Due to increasing cases of Ebola virus in these countries, citizens have been advised to avoid non-essential travel.
- India has also sent the first consignment of emergency medical aid and PPE kits to Africa.
- Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar shared information about this assistance on social media.
- So far, 867 cases of Ebola infection and 204 deaths have been recorded in Congo.
- Thermal screening and monitoring of passengers coming from these countries has been increased at the airports.
- Ebola is an infectious disease that spreads from animals to humans. There is currently no vaccine or treatment available for it.
- This time ‘Bundibugyo strain’ of Ebola has been found, whereas in Congo earlier most of the cases were of ‘Zaire strain’.
5. Organization of 75th ‘Fit India Sunday’ and Commonwealth Sports Day
- On May 24, ‘Fit India Sunday on Cycle’ was organized at more than 8,000 places across the country.
- The main event of this cycling mega event took place in Ahmedabad.
- Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya launched the event at the Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad.
- This was the 75th edition of the ‘Fit India Sunday’ event.
- Commonwealth Sports Day was also celebrated on 24th May.
- Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Shanghvi, Olympic medalist Gagan Narang and actor Ayushmann Khurrana also attended the event and gave the message of staying fit.
- The government appealed to the people to use bicycles for short distances.
