2. President Draupadi Murmu presented Shaurya Chakra at Rashtrapati Bhavan

  • On June 8, President Draupadi Murmu awarded 7 Kirti Chakras, 15 Vir Chakras and 29 Shaurya Chakras to the soldiers and their families at the Defense Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

3. Meeting of BRICS Agriculture Ministers started in Indore

  • On June 9, the meeting of BRICS Agriculture Ministers started in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This summit will continue till June 13.
  • Agriculture ministers of BRICS countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa participated in this meeting.
  • Food security, agricultural innovation, climate change, agricultural trade and small farmers will be discussed in this summit.
  • According to the Ministry of Agriculture, about 42% of the world’s agricultural land, 68% of agricultural holdings and 42% of food production are owned by BRICS countries.
  • In this summit, new technology and innovation in the agriculture sector will be discussed. Sessions will be organized on how to make farming safe in the era of climate change.
  • In this summit, emphasis will be laid on increasing the income of small farmers and connecting them to the global market.

International 4. US court bans fee of $1 lakh for H-1B visa

  • On June 8, the Federal Court in America canceled Trump’s policy of charging a fee of $ 1 lakh (about Rs 95 lakh) on H-1B visa.
  • The Boston Court said that this is not a fee but a tax and to implement it, the approval of the Parliament and not the President is required.
  • Trump had said in September 2025 that companies employing foreign workers on H-1B visas will have to pay an extra fee of $1 lakh for each visa.
  • After this, the Attorney General of 20 states challenged it. Now the Trump government can appeal against the court’s decision.
  • H-1B is a non-immigrant visa through which American companies can hire high-skilled professionals from foreign countries for a short period of time.
  • Earlier, for applying for H-1B visa, companies had to pay a fee of around 2000 to 5000 dollars.
  • This visa is most used by Indian IT and tech professionals.
  • External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had raised the issue of H-1B visa with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in May this year.
  • Rubio admitted that there may be some problems and tensions during the transition to the new immigration system.

5. Defense Ministry approves 250 MW Solar-BESS project

  • On June 9, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved the first large-scale solar power project on army land in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh.
  • This project will be built in a solar power plant of 250 megawatt (MW) capacity.
  • This battery will be developed with Solar Storage System (Battery Energy Storage System – BESS).
  • According to the Defense Ministry, this is the first project of its kind, in which a large-scale solar energy production facility with BESS will be started on army land.
  • According to the ministry, this project will be developed by NTPC as part of its initiative to make better use of vacant army land (defense land).
  • This initiative will increase clean energy and sustainability. This will also reduce dependence on traditional energy sources.
  • This project aims to further strengthen defense institutions and reduce dependence on conventional electricity.
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) stores additional solar energy and helps provide power at low voltage or at night.
