- On June 5, India’s leading economist Neelkanth Mishra was appointed as the new Executive Director of India at the World Bank.
- Neelkanth will hold the post of executive director for three years.
- Neelkanth has replaced Parameshwaran Iyer.
- In 1997, Neelkanth started his career as a System Manager in Hindustan Lever.
- From 2000 to 2023, Neelkanth held different positions in many different organizations including Senior Technical Architect in Infosys.
- In 2020, Neelkanth was a member of the PM Economic Advisory Council and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
- Neelkanth has also been an advisor to the 15th and 16th Finance Commission.
- From 2023 till now, Neelkanth was the Chief Economist in Axis Bank.
- Neelkanth was also a full time director in Axis Bank.

3. Meenakshi and Jasmine became world number 1 boxers
- On June 5, Indian women boxers Meenakshi Hooda and Jasmine Lamboria became world number 1 boxers.
- In the World Boxing Rankings, Meenakshi and Jasmine achieved this ranking in their respective weight categories.
- Meenakshi has achieved world number-1 ranking in 48 kg category and Jasmine Lamboria has achieved world number-1 ranking in 57 kg category.
- In this IBA ranking, 9 out of the top-10 female boxers are Indians.
- India is currently ranked third in the world in the World Boxing Top-10 Rankings.
- This ranking has been released by the International Boxing Association.
- Jasmine has achieved this position by consistently winning medals in recent international tournaments.
- Indian boxers have now become the main contenders for the upcoming Asian Games and World Championships.
- Meenakshi won the gold medal in the 48 kg category in the 2025 World Boxing Championship, while Jasmine Lamboria won the gold medal in the 57 kg category.

This is the first time that two Indian boxers have got top ranking together.

4. Former Secretary General Dr. Subhash C. Kashyap passed away
- On June 4, former Lok Sabha Secretary General Subhash C. Kashyap passed away. He was 97 years old.
- Served as Secretary General of the Lok Sabha from 1983 to 1990. He was also a journalist, lawyer and university professor.
- Dr. Kashyap was also Honorary Constitutional Advisor on Panchayati Raj Laws and Institutions to the Government of India.
- Dr. Kashyap was the first Indian to lead Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) documents in Geneva.
- In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contributions to public affairs and institutional studies.
- In 2023-24, Dr. Kashyap was also a part of the One Nation, One Election Committee headed by former President Ramnath Kovind.
- Dr. Kashyap wrote more than 100 books and more than 500 research papers on Constitutional Law and Parliament Affairs in his career.

Dr. Kashyap was the President of the Indian National Bar Association (INBA) for a long time.

5. Shoko Ishikawa becomes the new representative of UN Women in India
- On June 5, Shoko Ishikawa was appointed the new Country Representative of the United Nations Women Organization (UN Women) in India.
- Ishikawa will work as the representative of UN Women in India. On 4 June he presented his credentials to the Ministry of External Affairs of India in New Delhi.
- Ishikawa has also served as UN Women Country Representative in Bangladesh and Vietnam.
- Ishikawa will work on priority for the economic empowerment and security of women in India.
- UN Women is an entity of the United Nations that works for gender equality and empowerment of women.

6. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal visited India
- Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal has come to India on an official visit from 5 to 7 June.
- This is the first ministerial-level visit to India after the formation of the new government of Nepal.
- This visit of Shishir is taking place on the invitation of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar.
- During this visit, there will be a meeting in New Delhi and the talks will discuss trade, investment, energy cooperation, connectivity, strengthening people-to-people ties.
- Hydro power project can also be discussed in this meeting. Also, review of security and transit agreements can also be a part of this visit.

This visit of Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal to India is part of the Neighborhood First Policy.
