Anukeerthana was a resident of Park Town, Kovaipudur, Coimbatore.

Anukeerthana, a 19-year-old student preparing for NEET in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, committed suicide by consuming poison on Wednesday morning. Before her death, the student had sent WhatsApp messages to her uncle and close relatives.

In the message she wrote- ‘I had given the NEET exam and was waiting for admission in medical college, but the exam got cancelled. Now I am scared of taking the exam again. My father has spent a lot of money on me, I don’t know how to face him now.

At the same time, at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday night in New Ranip area of ​​Ahmedabad, a 17-year-old student jumped from the sixth floor of Block B of Anandam Flats. Police investigation revealed that the student was preparing for NEET exam. The reason for suicide is not yet known.

This is the fourth case of suicide of a NEET student in the last two days. Earlier on June 16, 23 year old Riya Thapa in Dehradun and a 17 year old student in Lucknow had committed suicide. After the cancellation of NEET exam on May 12, around 12 students across the country have lost their lives so far.

The student was found unconscious in the room of her house in Coimbatore.

Anukeerthana was a resident of Park Town, Kovaipudur, Coimbatore. Her father Senthil Prabhu is the district secretary of the CITU-affiliated TASMAC trade union. Anukeertana was the elder of the two daughters. He studied till 12th class from a private school in Ettimadai.

It was his dream to help the poor by becoming a doctor. However, she was deeply shocked by the cancellation of NEET Paritra due to paper leak and the announcement of re-exam on June 21. On Wednesday morning he sent a long WhatsApp message to his relatives.

After reading the girl’s message, her family reached her house. She was found unconscious when the door of the room was broken. He was immediately taken to a private hospital in the city, where he died during treatment.

The family asked for the resignation of the Union Minister

The body of the student was sent to the Government ESI Medical College Hospital for postmortem. After postmortem, the family refused to accept the body of the student. Later, after talks with the officials, they collected the body on Wednesday night.

The family has demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. After the incident, CPM district committee members demonstrated in the ESI Hospital premises and raised the demand for ban on NEET. Here the police have seized the student’s mobile phone and started investigation.

Exam held on May 3 canceled due to paper leak

NEET-UG exam was conducted on 3rd May 2026 across the country. About 23 lakh students appeared in the examination. After the examination, allegations of question paper leaking and some candidates getting the paper in advance came to light from many states.

NTA canceled the exam on May 12 after investigation indicated irregularities. After this, based on the review of the Central Government and the investigating agencies, it was decided to conduct the examination again.

Admission in more than 1 lakh medical colleges through NEET

NEET i.e. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is the national entrance examination for admission to medical and dental courses in India. It was started in 2013.

Through this examination, admission is available in courses like MBBS, BDS, AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS) and Nursing in all the government and private medical colleges of the country, which also includes prestigious institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER.
