1.Rohit Jain becomes the new Deputy Governor of RBI
On May 3, Rohit Jain assumed the post of the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet i.e. ACC had informed Rohit Jain about the name of the new Deputy Governor of RBI on May 2.
- Rohit’s appointment is for 3 years and he has replaced the current Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar.
- Rohit was working as Executive Director (ED) in RBI since December 2020.
- While holding the position of Executive Director, Rohit worked for the Supervision Department (Risk, Analytics and Vulnerability Assessment).
- Rohit holds a Masters in Commerce and a Master of Business Administration (MBA).
- Rohit holds professional degrees such as International Certificate in Banking Risk and Regulation (ICRR) and Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (CAIIB).
- Rohit has nearly three decades of experience in the Reserve Bank. During his career, he has worked in many important areas including supervision, human resource management and banking.
- Rohit can work for departments like Financial Market Regulation, Foreign Exchange and Payment and Settlement System.
- There are a total of four deputy governors in RBI. Of these, two officers are appointed internally i.e. through promotion from the ranks of the bank.
- SC Murmu is the second deputy governor along with Rohit Jain who was promoted from within the RBI in October 2025.
- The other two deputy governors are elected from outside areas. Presently economist Poonam Gupta and commercial banker Swaminathan J. (Former MD of SBI) is posted on this post.
Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
- Reserve Bank of India is the supreme bank of India. It was established on 1 April 1935.
- RBI was nationalized in 1949 and its headquarters is in Mumbai.
The RBI’s functions include issuing currency (except Re 1), determining the country’s monetary policy (such as the repo rate), managing foreign exchange reserves, and acting as the banker of all banks.

2. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi appointed chairman of Prasar Bharati
On May 2, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting appointed lyricist Prasoon Joshi as the chairman of Prasar Bharati. Joshi will head the Prasar Bharati board
- Joshi has been the President of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in 2017. Where he gave certificates to films and worked closely with members of the film industry.
- Joshi is also the CEO of McCann Worldgroup India (Marketing) and Chairman of McCann Worldgroup Asia Pacific (APAC). He is also a trustee of Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.
- Prasoon has written songs for many films including Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Delhi-6.
- Joshi became famous with the 2006 film Rang De Basanti and gained recognition with the songs Rubaaru and Luka Chuppi.
- In 2015, Prasoon Joshi was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India for his contribution to literature and advertising.
- Joshi has also been honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI).

In 2007, Joshi wrote the song ‘Maa’ for the film Taare Zameen Par.
International
3. Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi on visit to Myanmar
On May 2, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi arrived on a 4-day visit to Myanmar. Admiral Tripathi met General Ye Win Oo, Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar.
- Along with this, Admiral Tripathi will also meet Myanmar’s Defense Minister General U Htun Aung.
- Admiral Tripathi will participate in bilateral talks with senior officers of the Myanmar Armed Forces.
- During this visit, Admiral Tripathi and Myanmar Navy Chief will review maritime cooperation.
- Also, in this meeting, operational level relations will be enhanced and new avenues of cooperation between the two navies will be explored.
- During the visit, Admiral Tripathi will also visit the Central Naval Command and No. 1 Fleet of the Myanmar Navy and the Myanmar Armed Forces Fallen Heroes War Memorial.
- During this visit, issues like maritime security, capacity building and training will be discussed.

This visit is about mutual respect, trust and maritime security in the Indian Ocean region between India and Myanmar.

4. BCCI announced Women’s T-20 team
On May 2, BCCI has announced the Indian women’s team for the Women’s T-20 World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur will be the captain of the team and Smriti Mandhana has been made the vice captain.
- The T-20 World Cup will start from June 12 in England. India will start its campaign against Pakistan on June 14 in Birmingham.
- 11 players who won the ODI World Cup last year have got a place in this team. Whereas Punjab’s Nandani Sharma has been selected in the World Cup for the first time.
- Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana, Shefali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wicketkeeper), Bharti Fulmali, Sri Charani, Yastika Bhatia, Nandani Sharma, Arundhati Reddy, Kranti Gaur, Renuka Singh Thakur, Shreyanka Patil and Radha Yadav.
- The women’s team will play its first match against Pakistan on 14 June 2026.
Women’s T-20 match
- The T20 World Cup started on 5 August 2004, when the first match was played between the women’s teams of England and New Zealand.
- The Indian women’s cricket team played its first T20 on 5 August 2006 in the derby against England.

The first T20 World Cup in T20 format was held in England in 2009.
5. Ishank of Ranchi made a world record by crossing the Pak Strait.
On April 30, 7-year-old Ishank Singh, a resident of Ranchi, created a world record by swimming the dangerous 29-km ‘Pak Strait’ from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka to Dhanushkodi (Tamil Nadu) in India in 9 hours 50 minutes.
- Ishank has now become the world’s youngest swimmer to cross the sea route of ‘Pak Strait’.
- Universal Records Forum has also given him the World Record Certificate for ‘Youngest and Fastest Pak Straight Swimmer’.
- Ishank’s training took place under the guidance of coaches Aman Kumar Jaiswal and Bajrang Kumar.
- The Palk Strait is located between India and Sri Lanka, where there is a danger of strong currents and marine animals. Despite this, Ishank covered the entire route.
- Ishank is a class three student of DAV Shyamali School, Ranchi.

Ishank used to practice for 4 to 5 hours daily at Dhurva Dam in Ranchi.
6. Dr R Balasubramaniam, Dr Joram become full time members of NITI Aayog
On 2 May, Dr R Balasubramaniam and Dr Joram Aniya became full-time members of NITI Aayog. The Cabinet Secretariat gave information about the appointment through gazette notification.
With this new appointment, the total number of full-time members in NITI Aayog now reaches seven, which also includes one Vice-Chairman, Ashok Kumar Lahri.
Dr Joram Ania
- Dr. Joram is from Arunachal Pradesh and is the HOD of Hindi Department in Itanagar.
- Dr. Joram Niyashi belongs to the tribe community and is the first PhD holder of her community.
- Dr. Joram has also written a book on Niashiq Literature. Also has done work related to tribe welfare.
- Joram will remain on this post till further orders.
Dr. R Balasubramaniam
- Dr. R Balasubramaniam is a public policy expert and an activist.
- Dr. Balasubramaniam has completed his studies from Harvard University.
- Dr. Balasubramaniam has been a faculty member at Cornell University New York and IIT Delhi. Cornell University holds a doctoral degree in ‘Indic Leadership’.
- He is a writer and has written more than 500 columns so far in Kannada and English newspapers.
- PM Narendra Modi is the Chairman of NITI Aayog and recently Ashok Lahri has been made the Vice Chairman.
- NITI Aayog was established on 1 January 2015, it is the main policy think tank of the Government of India.
