1. Former judge Anupinder Singh Grewal becomes President of NCLT
On April 30, former Punjab and Haryana High Court judge Anupinder Singh Grewal was appointed President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NLCT). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has approved his appointment.
- Justice Grewal will continue to hold his post for the next 5 years or till the age of 67 years, whichever is earlier.
- Justice Grewal did M.A. in the year 1987. (History) and obtained LLB degree in 1992.
- Justice Grewal started his law practice in 1992 from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
- In 1995, Justice Grewal became the Assistant Advocate General of Punjab.
- Justice Grewal became Senior Deputy Advocate General in 1997 and held the post till 2002.
- Justice Grewal became Additional Advocate General in 2005.
- For 19 years, Justice Grewal argued cases like civil, constitutional, criminal, service and public interest litigation on behalf of the state of Punjab.
- Justice Grewal took oath as Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana in 2016 after holding different posts.
- NCLT is a quasi-judicial body that hears corporate disputes, insolvency cases and cases under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC).
- NCLT was formed in 2016 under Company Law Section 408. Comes under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The headquarters is in New Delhi.

Justice Grewal obtained his B.A. from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi in 1985. Took degree.
2. PM Modi will visit 4 countries
PM Narendra Modi will visit four countries in Europe in May. He will visit Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15 to 20.
- In Norway, Modi is set to participate in the third India-Nordic summit to be held on May 15 and 16.
- This summit was to be held in May last year, but it was canceled after the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
- Innovation, economic development, climate solutions and mutually beneficial investments will be discussed in this summit.
- During this visit, PM Modi can also meet the leaders of the five Nordic countries participating in the summit – Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
- This will be PM’s first visit to Europe after many years of long negotiations between India and the European Union.
- Although Denmark, Finland and Sweden are members of the European Union, Norway and Iceland are not part of the group.

PM Modi will first go to Norway during this visit.

3. America returned 675 ancient sculptures to India
On April 30, America returned 675 ancient sculptures to India. These statues are worth more than 14 million dollars i.e. approximately Rs 120 crore.
- All these idols were smuggled by smuggling gangs and taken to America.
- The US Attorney’s Office in Manhattan, New York had announced the return of these artefacts to India after investigating the smuggling.
- Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg Jr. announced the return of these statues at a ceremony attended by Rajalakshmi Kadam, Counselor of the Indian Consulate in New York.
- The statues returned include a bronze statue of Avalokiteshvara (Bodhisattva), which was in the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum in Raipur, which is worth $2 million.
- It was stolen and taken to America in 1982 and was seized from a private museum in New York in 2025.
- These statues include a red sandstone Buddha statue worth $7.5 million bought in 2000 from a temple in Madhya Pradesh.
- Also among the idols returned was a sandstone statue of Dancing Ganesha, which was auctioned at Christie’s New York in 2012 by smugglers using fake certificates.

This idol of Lord Ganesha was stolen in the year 2000.
4. Vietnamese President To Lam will visit India
On April 30, Vietnamese President To Lam informed about his state visit to India. President Lam will be on a state visit to India from 5 to 7 May.
- President Lam will also be accompanied by a high level delegation, which will include several ministers and senior officials of the Government of Vietnam.
- This is President Lam’s first visit to India after being elected President of Vietnam in April.
- President To Lam will reach Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 6, where there will be wide-ranging discussions on bilateral relations as well as regional and global issues of mutual interest.
- President Lam will also visit Bodh Gaya and Mumbai during his visit to India.
- India and Vietnam have historical and long standing civilizational ties.
- This marks the 10th anniversary of President Lam taking forward the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
- The talks between the leaders are expected to give new impetus to the strong bilateral relations and open new avenues of cooperation between India and Vietnam.

This is Lam’s first visit after being elected President of Vietnam in April.
5. Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited hands over Mahendragiri to Indian Navy
On May 1, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) has handed over the indigenous advanced stealth frigate ‘Mahendragiri’ to the Indian Navy.
- This was the sixth and last ship to be built under Project 17A (P17A).
- Mahendragiri is part of self-reliant India and uses about 75% indigenous material.
- Mahendragiri warship has been named after the ‘Mahendragiri’ mountain peak in the Eastern Ghats of Odisha.
- Mahendragiri has been jointly built by the Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy.
- This frigate is 149 meters long and weighs approximately 6,670 tonnes.
- It can run at a speed of up to 28 knots. This ship is capable of carrying out sea operations for 45 days at a time.
- It includes 8 BrahMos supersonic anti-ship missiles, medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MR-SAM), and state-of-the-art anti-submarine warfare systems.
- The advanced stealth frigate INS Nilgiri, the first of the seven Nilgiri class warships being built under Project 17A, was commissioned into the Navy in January 2025.
- In the beginning of the year 2026, Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft ‘Anjdeep’ was also inducted into the Navy.
- All frigates of Project 17 and 17A are named after mountain ranges of India. Like- Shivalik, Sahyadri, Satpura, Nilgiri, Himgiri, Taragiri, Udayagiri, Dunagiri, Mahendragiri and Vindhyagiri.
