1. Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar becomes the new Vice Chief of the Navy

  • On 29 May, Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar became the 48th Vice Chief of the Indian Navy.
  • Ajay Kochhar has specialization in gunnery and missile systems.
  • Vice Admiral Ajay was commissioned on 1 July 1988.
  • Vice Admiral Ajay was the Commander in Chief in Adman-Nicobar.
  • Ajay was also Commandant, National Defense Academy and Chief of Staff Western Naval Command.
  • In 2013, Ajay became the Commissioning Commanding Officer of the stealth frigate INS Trikand.
  • In 2017, he took command of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya and became its third commanding officer.
  • Along with this, Vice Admiral Ajay Kochhar has led important commands and operations in many advanced frontline warships like INS Vidyut, INS Kulish, INS Mysore, INS Vikramaditya.

2. CCI’s first president Dhanendra Kumar passes away

  • On May 28, the first chairman of Competition Commission of India (CCI) and former IAS Dhanendra Kumar passed away. He was 80 years old.
  • Dhanendra was a 1968 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre. Dhanendra became the first chairman of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in 2009.
  • Dhanendra played an important role in drafting the competition law of India.
  • Dhanendra created the competition regulatory framework at CCI, made anti-monopoly competition laws and implemented the Competition Act.
  • Dhanendra was also the Executive Director of the World Bank and Dhanendra was a senior officer in the Ministry and Commerce.

3. NSA Ajit Doval arrives on Moscow visit

  • On May 29, India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met Russian NSA Sergei Shoigu in Moscow.
  • NSA Ajit Doval addressed the 14th meeting in Moscow. During this meeting, bilateral defense security, energy and security relations were reviewed.
  • During this, Doval also met Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
  • The NSA chiefs of both the countries also discussed the Middle East conflict and the global energy crisis in this meeting.
  • Issues related to S-400 missile system and other defense deals between India and Russia were also discussed.

4. Deputy PM of Australia will visit India

  • On May 28, Australia’s Deputy PM and Defense Minister Richard Marles will visit India to participate in the Australia-India Defense Minister talks.

  • During this visit, there can be talks on military cooperation between India and Australia.

Wrestler Vinesh Phogat will be able to participate in the Asian Games trials

  • On May 29, the Supreme Court has approved the trial of Haryana’s Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat for the Asian Games.
  • On May 28, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) had applied to the Supreme Court to stop Phogat’s trial, which was rejected by the bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aaradhe.
  • This trial will be held in Delhi on 30-31 May. On the basis of performance in these trials, players will be selected for the Asian Games to be held in Japan in September this year.
  • In the order given on May 22, Delhi High Court had given permission to Vinesh Phogat to participate in the selection trial. This decision was challenged by WFI in the Supreme Court.
  • The WFI had declared Phogat ineligible to participate in domestic competitions till June 26, 2026, citing the mandatory six-month notice period for athletes returning from retirement under anti-doping rules.
  • Along with this, WFI had also issued a show cause notice on charges of indiscipline and violation of anti-doping rules.
  • Vinesh Phogat played her last wrestling match in the Paris Olympics in 2024.
  • Vinesh played 3 matches in a single day on 6 August 2024 in the 50 kg weight category.
  • When his weight was checked before playing the final, his weight was found to be 100 grams more.
  • After this he was disqualified. Vinesh Phogat announced her retirement from wrestling on 8 August 2024.
  • On December 12, 2025, Vinesh had announced her retirement and said that she wants to participate in the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.

  • If the court finds that the federation’s selection policy is discriminatory, it can direct the player to attend a trial.

  • On May 29, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu launched the first digital ‘Forest Rights Act’ (FRA) atlas.
  • Launched the North East’s first Digital Forest Rights Act (FRA) during the ‘Tribal Garima Utsav 2026 – Birsa Lives in New India Week’ program held at Pragya Bhawan, Agartala.
  • This atlas will help in the management of land rights and forest rights of tribal communities.
  • The Digital FRA Atlas was developed in collaboration with Tripura Application Centre.
  • This initiative is to do digital mapping and geospatial technology through the Forest Rights Act (FRA), 2006.
