This is the first time that the Public Service Commission has released the provisional answer key as soon as the exam is over. Candidates have been given time till May 31 to register their objection on this.
Many experts also say that the Prelims of 2026 was perhaps one of the most different types of papers ever. Now UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar’s reaction on CSE Prelims has also come to light.

Chairman agreed that answer key will provide clarity:
UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar has shared a post on Linkedin. He said, ‘I understand that this year’s Prelims was tough and challenging for many aspirants. In such a situation, the official provisional answer key provides more clarity.
Most of the answer books in the answer key are from government websites, government press releases, reputed newspapers from which aspirants prepare. If any answer in the answer key needs review, you can submit your responses on the official QPRep portal.
Shekhar Dutt, who prepares for UPSC in Chandigarh, posted on social media that ‘This was one of the toughest UPSC Prelims exams till date.’ He gave a new name to UPSC and said that it is ‘Unprecedented (which has not happened before) Public Service Commission’.
Most questions from art and culture
This time in the General Studies paper, maximum 20 questions were asked from History, Art and Culture. Apart from this, 19 questions came from Economy, 18 from Science and Technology, 13 from Geography, 11 from Environment and 8 from Politics and Governance. Whereas 11 questions were asked from other subjects.
