NATIONAL
1. PM Modi participated in the third India-Nordic Summit
- On May 19, PM Modi participated in the third India-Nordic Summit in Oslo, the capital of Norway.
- India-Nordic Summit is an important forum between India and the five Nordic countries – Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Iceland.
- PM Modi met the Prime Ministers of all Nordic countries at the summit.
- The countries involved in the Nordics work to promote cooperation in areas such as clean energy, environmental protection, trade and the blue economy.
- PM Modi met King Harald V of Norway and announced to take India-Norway relations to the level of ‘Green Strategic Partnership’.
- During this period, 12 important agreements related to climate, technology and trade were signed between India and Norway.
- After 43 years an Indian Prime Minister has visited Norway. Earlier in 1983, Indira Gandhi had visited Norway.
2. Squadron Leader Sanya becomes first woman flying instructor in IAF
- On 18 May, Squadron Leader Sanya became the first woman officer to become a Cat-A qualified flying instructor.
- Flight instructors train Indian Air Force pilots.
- In the Air Force, Cat-A i.e. Category A flying instructor is the master instructor, who also trains junior instructors.
- Cat-A is the highest rating for a Qualified Flying Instructor (QFI).
- Sanya is the first woman QFI to receive Cat-A rating in the 93-year history of the Indian Air Force.
- Sanya joined the Indian Air Force on 20 June 2015.
- Sanya became a flight lieutenant in 2017 and a squadron leader in 2021.
- The post of Squadron Leader in the Indian Air Force is equivalent to the post of Major in the Army.

Sanya will work with the Safety and Operational Flying Unit.
3. Former CM of Uttarakhand Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri passes away
- On May 19, former Uttarakhand CM Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri passed away at the age of 91.
- Bhuvan joined the Indian Army in 1954 and was a Major General in the army.
- Bhuvan became a Union Minister in 1998 and was the Road Transport and Highways Minister from 2000 to 2004.
- Bhuvan became the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand in March 2007 and remained in this post till June 2009.
- He resigned from the post of Chief Minister after BJP’s poor performance in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
- Bhuvan became CM again in 2011. He held this post from September 2011 to March 2012.

In 1991, Bhuvanchandra joined BJP and won from Garhwal Assembly.
4. Musician Mauli Takalkar passes away
- On May 19, Mauli Takalkar, the famous rhythm musician of Indian classical and devotional music, passed away.
- Takalkar was 99 years old. His full name was Dnyaneshwar Takalkar.
- Mauli was a classical and devotional singer for four generations and played the musical instruments jhanja, pakhawaj and mridangam.
- Jhanj is an ancient Indian percussion instrument resembling round bowls made of brass or copper.
- Mauli performed in more than 2,500 Santvani programs with Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.
- Mauli was particularly known for her long association with Bhimsen Joshi.
- Mauli was called ‘Master of Rhythm’ for her extraordinary command of rhythm.
- Mauli was honored with the Vatsalbai Joshi Award in 2025.

Mauli gave recognition to Jhanj Taal as a rhythmic art.
5. Rail doubling project worth Rs 993 crore approved in Chennai
- On May 19, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed about the approval of the project of doubling of single line railway in Chennai.
- This project costing Rs 993 crore is for Arakkonam-Chengalpattu in Chennai, which will connect Walajabad, Kanchipuram and Thakkolam.
- This project will also reduce congestion on the Chennai suburban rail network.
- This project will help in both passenger and freight transportation. This will ease the movement of goods like cement, automobiles, food grains, iron and steel.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said the Arakkonam-Chengalpattu doubling project will save time.
6. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh arrives on Vietnam tour
- On May 19, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh met Vietnamese President To Lam.
- In this meeting, both the countries talked about maritime security and regional peace.
- This visit took place on the 10th anniversary of India-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
- Rajnath Singh also met Vietnam’s Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang.
- The two heads of state talked about Indo-Pacific security cooperation and expansion of India-Vietnam defense ties.
- The two chiefs also discussed the BrahMos missile deal.
- Rajnath Singh along with To Lam also inaugurated the language lab set up at the Air Force Officers College, Vietnam.
- Both countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding AI and quantum technology.

Another important step in the India-Vietnam comprehensive strategic partnership.
7. SC orders killing of dangerous dogs
- On May 19, the Supreme Court issued an order to kill dangerous or rabies-infected stray dogs by injecting them with poison.
- SC said that it is necessary to protect people’s lives.
- The Supreme Court has also continued the direction given in November 2025 on rehabilitation and sterilization of stray dogs.
- In November 2025, the Supreme Court had issued instructions to remove stray dogs from public places like schools, hospitals, bus stands, railway stations, highways.
- The Supreme Court had said in November 2025 – Wherever you catch stray dogs, do not leave them there after sterilization and vaccination.
- The SC has also ordered to set up a fully functional ABC Center (Animal Birth Control Centre) in every district.
