NATIONAL
1. Paper Leak Amendment Bill will be introduced in Lok Sabha today
- On July 27, the Central Government will present the Paper Leak Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha.
- This bill is an amendment to the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill 2026.
- It will be presented by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh.
- According to the new amendment, it will be mandatory to complete the investigation of paper leak cases within a maximum of 2 months.
- According to the new amendment, cases will be heard in fast track courts, so that the decision can be taken within about 3 months of filing the charge sheet.
- There will be a provision of rigorous imprisonment of up to 10 years for the culprits involved in paper leaks and organized examination fraud.
- According to the new amendment, a proposal will also be made to impose heavy financial penalty (fine) on the culprits.
- There will also be a provision for strict action against the examination centres, service providers and institutions involved in the paper leak.
- The Central Government will also be able to constitute a special task force if needed.
- The objective of this law is to restore transparency, accountability and confidence of students in examinations.
- Recently, questions were raised on the credibility of the examination system after the alleged paper leak cases related to NEET-UG 2026.
- In view of these incidents, the government is bringing this amendment to make the law more effective and stringent.
Appointment 2. Prahlad Joshi becomes the new education minister
- On July 25, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi was made the new Education Minister.
- After the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Prahlad Joshi has been given this post.
- For the first time in 2004, Prahlad was elected MP from Dharwad Lok Sabha seat of Karnataka.
- Prahlad, who was a three-time MP, became MP for the fourth time in 2019 and was appointed Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Coal Minister and Mines Minister in the Central Government.
- In the third term of the Modi government in 2024, he became the Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Minister of New and Renewable Energy.
Prahlad started his political career in 1995 as BJP, Dharwad District President.

3. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned
- On July 25, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post.
- Cockroach Janata Party and its students from different parts of the country were protesting at Jantar Mantar for the last 36 days, demanding his resignation in the NEET paper leak case.
- After this, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote a letter and tendered his resignation.
- After the formation of the Modi government for the first time in 2014, Dharmendra Pradhan is the first minister in his 12-year tenure who had to resign due to protests.
- Pradhan started his political career in 1983 with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
- In the year 2000, he became MLA for the first time from Pallahara constituency of Odisha Assembly.
- In 2004, he was elected MP from Deogarh Lok Sabha constituency of Odisha. He was also the National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party.
- In 2015, he became the National General Secretary of BJP and was in-charge of the organization of many states.
- On 26 May 2014, he became the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Petroleum and Natural Gas in the Central Government.
- In 2019, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister and Steel Minister were appointed in the Union Cabinet.
- Became the Union Education Minister in July 2021. Also took charge of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
- In 2024, MP was elected from Sambalpur Lok Sabha constituency of Odisha.
In 2018, Dharmendra Pradhan became Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh.

4. Anahat Singh becomes first Indian to win Junior Championship 2026
- On July 26, squash player Anahat Singh won the World Squash Junior Championship 2026 title.
- Anahat gave India its first gold of this tournament. With this she became the first Indian player to become Junior World Champion.
- Anahat defeated second topper Ruqya Salem of Egypt 11-3, 11-7, 11-9 in the singles final.
- Anahat has broken the record of India’s Joshna Chinappa, who had reached the final in 2005.
- With this victory, Anahat has also broken Egypt’s 15 year old record.
- Egyptian players had been winning the World Squash Junior Championship title continuously since 2011.
- Anahat started playing squash at the age of 5.
- Made a mark in 2019 by winning medals in several age-group competitions at the Asian junior level.
- Became the youngest Indian squash player to represent India at the Commonwealth Games 2022 (Birmingham).
- Won 2 bronze medals for India (women’s team and mixed doubles) at the 2023 Asian Games (Hangzhou).
- Became a part of the team that won the gold medal for India in the World Cup 2025.
- Anahat had won the bronze medal in the Junior World Championship last year in 2025.

5. Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won bronze
- On July 26, at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, Rishikant Singh won the silver medal in the 60 KG category of men’s weightlifting.
- Rishikant achieved second position by lifting a total weight of 264 KG.
- Rishikant lifted 121 KG in snatch and 143 KG in clean and jerk.
- India is now at 10th position in the medal table with 1 silver and 1 bronze.
- Australia is at number one with 23 medals including 12 gold.
- Para powerlifter Jhandu Kumar won the first medal for India in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games on Friday.
- Para powerlifter from Bihar won bronze medal in men’s heavyweight category.
- He scored 130.9 points with a best lift of 190 kg.
- In boxing, Jadumani Singh made it to the round of 16 with his victory. Putul Sonowal registered his second consecutive win in lawn bowls.
- Nigeria’s Reluwan Idris won gold and England’s Matthew Harding won silver.
- Jhandu Kumar is suffering from polio since childhood. During Covid-19, he sold potatoes and onions with his father on the roadside and also drove an e-rickshaw.
- Sold the e-rickshaw to prepare for the National Championship in 2023 and focus completely on the game.
- Won bronze medal in 80 kg category in Beijing (China) World Para Powerlifting World Cup.

6. Sarnath included in UNESCO World Heritage
- UNESCO included ancient Buddhist site Sarnath in World Heritage.
- On July 25, the ancient Buddhist site Sarnath was officially included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- With this the total number of World Heritage Sites in India increased to 45.
- This announcement was made at the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea.
- Sarnath is an ancient Buddhist site in Uttar Pradesh. It was here that Lord Gautam Buddha gave his first sermon (Dharmachakra Pravartan) after attaining enlightenment.
- It is considered one of the four major pilgrimage sites of Buddhism. The remains of Dhamekh Stupa, Chaukhandi Stupa, Ashoka Pillar, ancient Vihar and temples are located here.
- Sarnath was recognized as a global cultural and religious heritage.
- This will promote tourism, conservation and cultural identity of India at the international level.
- Sarnath came into existence in the sixth century BC (about 528 BC).
- Lord Buddha established Buddhism in 528 BC.
After Sarnath’s inclusion in UNESCO, there are now 45 UNESCO heritage sites in India.
