1. BrahMos deal between India and Indonesia

  • BrahMos deal was signed between India and Indonesia on 7th July. Along with this, 20 more agreements were signed.
  • Talks were going on between the two countries regarding BrahMos for the last 4 months.
  • India will provide additional units of BrahMos missile to Indonesia.
  • With this, Indonesia has become the third country after Philippines and Vietnam to purchase BrahMos.
  • Under the India-Indonesia agreement, India will also sell to Indonesia the Indian ‘Astra’ air-to-air missile used in Operation Sindoor.
  • India will also help in developing electronic voting machines (EVMs) for Indonesia.
  • These agreements took place during the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
  • On this occasion, the Government of Indonesia honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the highest civilian honor ‘Bintang Adipurna’.
  • The Bintang Adipurna Award is given to individuals who have made international contributions.
  • In Indonesia this award is considered equivalent to Bharat Ratna.
  • This highest honor of Indonesia was established in 1959.

  • On July 7, Dr. Girish Bhardwaj, known as the Bridge Man of India, passed away. He was 76 years old.
  • Girish was a professional mechanical engineer and an initiator of social innovation.

  • Girish built more than 140 low-cost suspension footbridges in several states of India over nearly three decades.

3. Sanjeev Jain appointed as the new ambassador of North Korea

  • On July 7, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, appointed Sanjeev Jain as the next Ambassador of India to North Korea.
  • Sanjeev is a 2008 batch IFS officer and will succeed Aliyavati Longkumar.
  • Sanjeev was currently the Ambassador of India to the African country Cabo Verde.
  • Along with this he worked in the Indian Embassy in Paris and served in the Indian Consulate in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

4. President Draupadi Murmu unveils Durand Cup 2026 trophies

  • On July 7, President Draupadi Murmu unveiled the Durand Cup 2026 trophies in New Delhi.
  • Chief of Defense Staff General NS Raja Subramani, Army Chief Dheeraj Seth and Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan were also present on this occasion.
  • The Durand Cup is one of the oldest football championships in Asia and this is its 135th edition.

  • Yang has been accused of bribery worth 325 million dollars i.e. about 31 billion rupees in the last 30 years.
  • The court said that considering the seriousness of corruption and its impact on the society, harsh punishment is necessary.
  • Yang Yaolin’s bribe amount is the largest among all the cases exposed so far under the anti-corruption campaign in China.
  • In China, there are provisions ranging from life imprisonment to death penalty in serious cases of corruption.
  • The aim of the anti-corruption campaign in China is to increase transparency in the government structure and keep strict control on corruption.
  • Earlier in 2024, Li Jianping of Inner Mongolia, which will be in North China, was hanged after being found guilty of embezzlement and bribery.
