Former Google employee started his own restaurant, earning in crores

Former Google employee Salahuddin Abdul-Kafi left his Rs 4.2 crore annual job last year and opened his own restaurant. Now his restaurant in Texas, America has become famous by the name of Halal Barbecue (BBQ).

His story is being liked a lot on social media. Before Google, Abdul Kafi had also worked in Microsoft, YouTube and Cruise for 14 years. His age is 35 years.

Why did Salahuddin leave the job?

Salahuddin told that he was satisfied with the tech industry. He realized that the work here is being done only to earn money and not to improve the lives of the people. For this reason, he left his job at Google and joined a non-profit (NGO) organization.

The idea of the restaurant came from the praise of friends

Salahuddin was very fond of cooking. Even while working, he would often host dinner parties and barbecues for friends. Friends liked the food prepared by him so much that they said that they had never tasted such a thing before.

Due to the praise received from friends, the idea of opening a restaurant came to his mind. They thought why not try something new with Texas barbecue. After this, he opened his restaurant named Kafi BBQ in December 2024. The start was so good that the food they had prepared for 3 days was finished on the very first day and they had to cook again the same night.

8.4 crores spent in opening the restaurant

Despite such huge earnings, Salahuddin has not taken a single rupee as salary for himself from the restaurant. He is meeting his expenses from his old savings only. About Rs 8.4 crore was spent on opening the restaurant. He has not been able to recover it completely yet.

According to Salahuddin, his parents were Iraqi. The food he ate in his childhood at Kansas City Barbecue, a non-halal restaurant, became his inspiration. Despite such good earnings, Kafi has not yet withdrawn his salary from this restaurant. They say that the cost of running their restaurant is very high. They are living off their savings and investing all the money back into the business. A lot of their money is also spent in marketing and other works of the restaurant.
