After the cancellation of NEET UG exam held on 3rd May, the re-exam was conducted on 21st June.
National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the result of NEET UG 2026 late on Thursday night. This year, around 20 lakh students had appeared for the examination, out of which 11.21 lakh students have qualified for admission to medical, dental, AYUSH and other medical courses.
For the first time after 2020 and 2021, no student was able to achieve a perfect score of 720. Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana became All India toppers with 715 marks out of 720. 19 students scored more than 700, while 138 candidates scored more than 690.
More than 93% of the top scorers had appeared for the exam for the first time. 99% of the top rankers were between 17 and 19 years of age. Of the total candidates who have qualified, more than 58% are girls and 55.1% are boys. Students can check their scorecard at neet.nta.nic.in.
Qualifying general category students decreased by 3%, trend 4
- Girls’ Participation: In 2019, about 8.39 lakh girls had registered. In 2024 this number reached a record 13.77 lakh. However, there was a slight decline in 2025 to 13.10 lakh. The success rate has increased continuously. The pass percentage between 2019 and 2025 ranged between 56% to 57%.
- Dominance of North-East-Small States: The top-17 students with 705+ marks are from 8 states namely Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. There are state toppers from all the states of the North-East. 43 students from Lakshadweep qualified.
- Those who qualified dropped: The number of students appearing in NEET has been decreasing since last two years. 23.33 lakh students took the exam in 2024 and 22.09 lakh students took the exam in 2025. The number will drop to 20 lakh in 2026. Therefore those who qualify are decreasing.
- Big increase in cut-off: There has been a big jump in the cut-offs of all categories in 2026 as compared to 2025. Minimum qualifying marks for General/EWS increased from 144 to 213. For OBC, SC and ST categories, the marks increased from 113 to 177. General category participation among qualified students declined by 3% from last year.
NEET exam was held again due to paper leak
The NEET-UG 2026 exam held on May 3 was canceled due to paper leak allegations. After this, NTA conducted the examination again on 21st June. This examination was conducted in 13 languages at 5,440 examination centers in 551 cities across the country and abroad.
NTA also made major changes in the evaluation process of the exam this year. For the first time, all evaluation stages were completed in parallel instead of one after the other. Due to this, the result could be released on time. At the same time, for the first time the process of OMR sheet challenge was kept separate from the process of releasing the answer key.

- 3 May 2026: First exam of NEET UG 2026 held
- May 12, 2026: After paper leak allegations: May 3 exam canceled
- 21 June 2026: NEET UG re-examination conducted across the country
- 25 June 2026: Provisional answer key released, objection window opened
- 25–28 June 2026: Objections were sought from the candidates on the answer key.
- 13–15 July 2026: Scanned OMR sheet and recorded response released
- 16 July 2026: Final answer key released, NEET UG 2026 result declared
NEET exam will be computer based from 2027
After the paper leak, the government has decided to make major changes in the NEET exam. From 2027, NEET-UG will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) i.e. online mode. At present the examination is conducted in offline (pen-and-paper) mode.
In the new system, students will solve questions on computer. However, there will be no change in the syllabus, number of questions, subjects and marking scheme. Candidates will also be given the facility of mock tests and demos in advance for the online examination, so that they can prepare according to the new system.
