1. Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono came to India
- On June 7, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono came to India on a three-day visit.
- Sugiono and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar co-chaired the 8th India-Indonesia Joint Commission meeting in New Delhi on the first day.
- In this meeting, the cooperation strategic partnership between India and Indonesia was discussed.
- In this joint meeting, issues like defence, maritime security, business, investment, increasing connectivity were also discussed.
- During the visit of Nepal President Prabowo Subianto to India (2025), agreements signed between India and Nepal were also discussed.
- Both countries are important partners in the Indo-Pacific region, maritime cooperation, counter-terrorism cooperation and ASEAN.
- ASEAN is a group of 11 countries. It includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the recently added East Timor (Timor-Leste).
Issues related to ASEAN and regional security were also discussed in this meeting.

2. Grandmaster R. Praggnananda wins Norway Chess 2026 title
- On June 6, India’s Young Grandmaster R. Praggnananda wins Norway Chess 2026 title.
- 20 year old Praggnananda has become the first Indian player to win this tournament.
- Praggnananda has won by defeating Vincent Keimer of Germany.
- However, on the last day of the tournament, Praggnananda was at third place with 15 points.
- In 2025, world number-1 player Magnus Carlsen won the Norway Chess Tournament.
- Carlsen has been the champion of Norway Chess Tournament 7 times so far.
- R. Praggnananda is one of the youngest successful Grandmasters of India. He had also won the Norway Chess in 2024.
- Praggnananda first won the World Youth Chess Championship in Under-8 in 2013.
- Praggnananda became the youngest International Master (IAM) in 2016 at the age of 10.
- Praggnananda became the world’s second youngest Grandmaster in 2018, at the age of 12.
- In 2019, Praggnananda won the World Youth Under-18 Championship.
- Praggnananda represented India in the 44th Chess Olympiad in 2022 and won bronze.
- Praggnananda also defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen in the rapid format during the 2022 tournament.
- Praggnananda won the FIDE Circuit 2025 and qualified for the Candidates Tournament 2026, becoming the first Indian to qualify through this route.

- This year the tournament was held for the first time in Oslo, the capital of Norway, from 25 May to 5 June 2026.
Praggnananda was given the Arjuna Award, India’s second highest sporting honour, in 2022.
3. India won Under-18 Hockey Asia Cup
- On June 6, India won the Under-18 Hockey Asia Cup for the third time.
- The team defeated defending champion Japan 4–1 in the final.
- India won the Under-18 Hockey Asia Cup title in 2001 and 2016.
- Each player of the Hockey India Men’s team will get Rs 3 lakh each.
- Along with this, Rs 1.5 lakh will be given to the sporting staff.
- 17 year old Ashish got the Player of the Match for his excellent performance in the final. He was also the top scorer of the tournament.
- Goalkeeper Ayush Rajak was chosen the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
- Along with this, India’s women’s team won the bronze medal by defeating South Korea 3-0.
- The players of the bronze winning Indian women’s team will get Rs 1 lakh each and the support staff will get Rs 50 thousand.
The team defeated defending champion Japan 4–1 in the final.
4. Tennis player Mira Andreeva won the French Open
- On June 6, tennis player Mira Andreeva won the French Open title for the first time.
- Mira defeated Maya Chwalinska of Poland in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s singles final.
- 19-year-old Andreeva became the second youngest player to win the French Open.
- 18 year old Monica Seles took this title from Andreeva in 1992.
- This is the first Grand Slam title for Andreeva of Russia.
- With this win, Andreeva became the teenage player to win the French Open women’s singles after Iga Swiatek in 2020.
- Andreeva is also the youngest women’s champion at the French Open since Monica Seles in 1992.
- Andreeva is the second Russian female player to win the French Open after former world number-1 Maria Sharapova.
- At the age of 16, Andreeva made her mark in international tennis by reaching the Round of 16 at Wimbledon.
- Andreeva won the silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics playing doubles with Diana Schneider.
Andreeva won the first Grand Slam semi-final of her career in 2024.

5. Malayalam actor Salim Kumar passes away
- Malayalam actor and co-writer Salim Kumar passed away on 6 June. He was 57 years old.
- Apart from being an actor, Salim was also a co-director and mimicry actor.
- Salim made his Malayalam film debut with Ishtamanu Nooru Vattam.
- In 2011, Salim received the National Film Award for Best Actor Acting in the film Aadaminte Makan Abu.
- Along with this, Salim also received the Kerala State Film Award. In 2017, Salim received the award for Best Story.
- Salim worked in more than 300 films in a career spanning over three decades.
- Salim mainly acted in Malayalam films. Also appeared in some Tamil (Maryan) and Odia (Unga) films.
Salim Kumar worked in more than 300 films and was a famous actor of Malayalam cinema.

6. Major Abhilasha Barak receives UN Military Gender Award
- On 6 June, Major Abhilasha Barak was awarded the UN Military Gender Advocate of the Year Award in New York.
- Major Abhilasha is the first woman combat helicopter pilot of the Indian Army.
- Major Abhilasha has been given this award by Antonio Guterres at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
- From June 2025, Major Abhilasha Barak is working as the Commander of the Female Engagement Team (FET) of the Indian battalion in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
- Major Abhilasha has been appointed to support local women and adolescent girls in this troubled and challenging region and promote gender equality in peacekeeping operations.
- Major Abhilasha has been given this award for gender equality, women empowerment and establishing women in the society and promoting mutual harmony.
- UNIFIL’s full name is United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. It is called the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
- It is a peacekeeping mission of the United Nations, which was established in 1978. It works to restore peace and security between Lebanon and Israel.
- India is one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping missions and has around 600 Indian troops deployed along the ‘Blue Line’ (Israel-Lebanon border).
- Before Major Abhilasha, Major Suman Gwani and Major Radhika Sen have received this award.
Major Barak is the third Indian peacekeeper to receive the UN Military Gender Award.

6. India-US Army held joint talks in Hawaii
- On June 7, the 29th edition of India-US Army Staff Talks (SST) was held in Hawaii (USA).
- The Army Staff Briefing was co-chaired by Lieutenant General Rajeev Ghai, Vice Chief of Staff of the Army, and Lieutenant General Joel Vowell, Deputy Commanding General, US Forces Pacific.
- These bilateral talks focused on increasing defense cooperation and improving inter-operation between the armies of the two countries.
- In this talk, military exchange and review of the armies of both the countries were done.
- In this talk, issues like joint military exercise, security interest, capacity building were discussed.
- The talks highlighted the growing importance of India-US military ties in support of a free, open and secure Indo-Pacific region.
- In this meeting, both the countries discussed India-US joint military and Indo-Pacific region security.
