1. BigBasket CEO Hari Menon resigns
- On June 16, Hari Menon, co-founder of online grocery platform BigBasket, resigned from the post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
- However, Hari will remain on the company’s board even after stepping down from the post of CEO.
- Along with this, he will also continue to mentor the new leadership and leadership team.
- Hari co-founded Fabmart in 1999, which was later acquired by Aditya Birla Group.
- BigBasket has been instrumental in becoming one of the largest online grocery platforms in India.
- In 2011, Hari along with Vipul Parekh, V S Sudhakar, V S Ramesh and Abhinay Chaudhary started BigBasket, India’s largest online grocery platform.
- Amit Nanda will now be the CEO of BigBasket in place of Hari Menon.
- Amit has spent more than 11 years in e-commerce company Amazon.

Hari has studied engineering from Birla Institute of Technology.

2. Footballer Lionel Messi scored the first hat-trick in FIFA
- On June 17, Argentina’s star footballer and captain Lionel Messi played his 200th international match in the FIFA World Cup.
- 38-year-old Messi scored the highest number of 16 goals in the history of the tournament and scored the first hat-trick of the tournament.

NATIONAL 3. Miss Grand International 2026 will be held for the first time in India
- On June 16, it was officially announced that Miss Grand International 2026 will be organized in India for the first time.
- According to the report, these competitions will be held in Jaipur, Agra and New Delhi in October.
- This is the 14th edition of Miss Grand International and India was officially announced as the host country for 2026 during the 2025 finale.
- India will be represented at Miss Grand International by Lakshita Thilagraj, who has won the title of Miss Grand India 2026.
- The Miss Grand International 2025 winner was Emma Marie Tigalo of the Philippines.
- This Grand International will give India an opportunity to present fashion globally, increase tourism and present its culture.
- Beauty queens from countries all over the world will participate in the competition.

This competition started in Thailand in 2013.
4. India and Thailand agreed on defense manufacturing
- On June 16, the 10th Defense Dialogue meeting was held between India and Thailand.
- During this, India and Thailand agreed to increase manufacturing, research, innovation and development.
- The meeting was co-chaired by Admiral Nattapol Diuvanich, Defense Deputy Secretary of Thailand, and Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary of the Indian Defense Ministry.
- In this meeting, all aspects of defense cooperation between the two countries were reviewed and regional and global security issues of mutual interest were discussed.
- The two sides also discussed the changing security environment in the Indo-Pacific region. Shared their views on regional developments and reiterated cooperation in promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
- The two countries also talked about enhancing defense ties under India’s ‘Act East Policy’ and Thailand’s ‘Act West Policy’.
- Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, with emphasis on a free, open and inclusive maritime order.
- Efforts to develop and promote defense equipment in line with India’s defense manufacturing initiatives were discussed.
- The two countries reviewed the progress made since the last defense dialogue and considered new initiatives for future cooperation.
- The two countries also talked about ongoing military-to-army interaction, capacity building, training exchanges, maritime and other areas of mutual interest.

5. Gujarat’s Jasdan Patari trunk gets GI tag
- On June 16, the famous handicraft art ‘Jasdan Patari’ of Rajkot district of Gujarat recently got the Geographical Indication (GI).
- After GI tag, the unique identity of this traditional craft, cultural heritage and skills of local artisans will be protected.
- Jasdaan Patari is a traditional chest made of teak wood. This box has relief carvings made of metals like brass and copper.
- Getting GI tag provides legal protection to the authenticity and unique geographical identity of the product.

These boxes were historically used to store clothes and jewellery.
