1. Kotak Mahindra Bank MD and CEO Ashok Vaswani will step down from the post.

  • Kotak Mahindra Bank Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashok Vaswani has decided to step down from the post (not seek reappointment) after the completion of his tenure.
  • Ashok Vaswani’s three-year tenure ends on December 31, 2026.
  • On June 27, the bank said that he had taken this decision for personal reasons and the board had accepted it.
  • Vaswani took charge on January 1, 2024, for a three-year tenure.
  • Vaswani was appointed to the post after billionaire banker Uday Kotak resigned in September 2023.
  • Ashok Vaswani has over 35 years of experience in global financial services across retail, consumer, corporate and payments businesses.
  • Before joining Kotak Bank, he was the President of Pagaya Technologies. He has held several senior leadership roles at Citigroup and Barclays in his career.
  • Ashok Vaswani is a Commerce graduate as well as a Chartered Accountant (CA) and Company Secretary (CS).
  • Apart from Vaswani, Kotak Bank’s senior leadership currently includes three full-time directors – Anoop Kumar Saha, Jaideep Hansraj and Paritosh Kashyap.

2. Launch of Bharat Taxi service in Gujarat

  • On June 27, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched Bharat Taxi Service in Gujarat.
  • This is India’s first zero commission ride hailing platform, in which drivers will keep the entire fare amount for themselves by paying only the membership fee.
  • In the first phase, it has been started in 14 major cities of Gujarat.
  • Bharat Taxi has been jointly developed by the Ministry of Cooperation and the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), the theme of which has been kept as ‘Sarathi Hi Malik’.
  • Cab, auto and bike taxi services will be provided through this platform.
  • There is also a plan to provide benefits of cooperative facilities like insurance loan and pension to the drivers.

3. Successful jet landing for the first time through satellite based navigation

  • On June 27, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) conducted the first successful landing of a jet aircraft using the indigenous GAGAN system.
  • The full name of GAGAN is GPS Aided GEO Augmented Navigation. This system is completely manufactured in India.
  • IndiGo’s Airbus A320 aircraft was used in this test.
  • The GAGAN system has been jointly developed by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
  • This system helps in safer and more accurate landing of aircraft by increasing the accuracy of GPS signals.
  • This will facilitate safe landing at small and remote airports and increase India’s indigenous technological self-reliance in the aviation sector.

4. Prime Minister Modi on three-day visit to Seychelles

  • On June 27, PM Modi arrived in Victoria on a three-day official visit to Seychelles.
  • This journey is taking place under the vision of ‘SAGAR’ i.e. Security and Growth for All in the Region.
  • PM Modi hands over Made in India Patrol Vessel PS Lespwar to Seychelles.
  • Modi also held bilateral talks with Seychelles President Patrick Herminy.
  • The PM visited the National Botanical Garden of Seychelles and fed fruit to ‘Jonathan’ the tortoise, the world’s longest living land creature.
  • PM Modi also addressed the National Assembly of Seychelles.
  • PM Modi was awarded Seychelles’ highest national honor ‘Guardian of the Blue Horizon’.
  • This is the 34th global award given to PM Modi by any country.

5. Ansi Sojan broke the national record in long jump

  • On June 27, Indian athlete Ansi Sojan broke Anju Bobby George’s 20-year-old national record in long jump.
  • Sojan achieved this feat at the Inter-State Athletics Championship 2026 held in Bhubaneswar.
  • Ansi Sojan won the gold medal with a jump of 6.85 meters.
  • Earlier, Anju Bobby George’s record was 6.83 meters which was made in the 2004 Athens Olympics.
  • Ansi is a resident of Kerala. His father is an auto-rickshaw driver, who himself was an athlete in his time.
  • Along with representing the country in sports, he also serves as a Chief Petty Officer in the Indian Navy.

6. Ethan Vaz becomes India’s 96th Chess Grandmaster

  • On June 27, Ethan Vaz of Goa became the 96th Grandmaster of India.
  • Ethan has achieved this feat at the age of just 14 years.
  • Ethan completed his third and final Grandmaster norm at the Grandmaster Mix tournament held in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
  • Ethan is the second Grandmaster of Goa after Leon Mendonca.
  • Ethan won 3 medals including 2 gold in the 2026 Commonwealth Chess Championship.
