NATIONAL
1. PM Modi reached Karnataka and Telangana during his 3-state tour
PM Modi is on a two-day tour of Karnataka, Telangana and Gujarat on May 10 and 11. In this tour, PM will first reach Telangana near Bengaluru.
- He laid the foundation of projects worth Rs 9,400 crore in Hyderabad. Inaugurated some projects.
- Along with this, PM Modi also participated in the 45th anniversary celebration of ‘The Art of Living’ in Bengaluru.
- Along with this, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone of the project related to widening of National Highway-167 from Gudebellur to Mahabubnagar.
- Gudebellur is part of the Hyderabad-Panaji Economic Corridor. Its total project cost is more than Rs 3,175 crore.
- He will reach Somnath in Gujarat today. Where will participate in the reconstruction festival of Somnath temple.
- After participating in the Somnath temple ceremony, he will go to Vadodara, where he will inaugurate ‘Sardardham Hostel’. Will address a public meeting here.

2. Thalapathy Vijay takes oath as 9th CM of Tamil Nadu
On May 10, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief and actor Thalapathy Vijay took oath as the 9th CM of Tamil Nadu. He took charge as the new Chief Minister of the state at a ceremony held at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
- Along with Vijay, 9 more ministers also took oath. These include the names of N Anand, Aadhav Arjun, Dr. KG Arunraj, KA Sengottaiyan, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmalkumar, Rajmohan, Dr. TK Prabhu, Selvi S Keertana.
- All of them are MLAs of Vijay’s party TVK. As of now, Vijay has not included any MLA from the allies in the first cabinet.
- On Saturday, Vijay handed over letters of support from 121 MLAs from TVK, Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK and IUML to Governor Arlekar. After this the Governor invited him to form the government.
- Vijay’s two-year-old party TVK won 108 out of 234 seats in its very first assembly elections and Vijay has 121 MLAs, while the majority figure is 118.
- Tamil Nadu will have a Chief Minister from a non-Dravidian party after 1967. Earlier, M Bhaktavatsalam was the Chief Minister in the Congress government from 1963-1967.
3. Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani will be the new CDS
On May 9, the Center announced the name of the new CDS. Retired Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani will be the next Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of the country. Besides, Subramani will also handle the responsibility of Secretary of the Defense Affairs Department.
- With this, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan has been appointed as the next Navy Chief.
- Lieutenant General Subramani and Admiral Swaminathan will assume charge on May 31.
- The tenure of current CDS Anil Chauhan is ending on May 30. NS Raja Subramani will be the third CDS of the country.
- NS Raja Subramani took commission in the army from Garhwal Rifles in December 1985.
- Subramani took military training from the National Defense Academy (NDA), after which he also went to the Joint Services Command and Staff College, Bracknell, Britain.
- After Subramani returned to India, he became Brigade Major in the Mountain Brigade. He studied from National Defense College, Delhi.
- He also holds a Master of Arts degree from King’s College London and an MPhil degree in Defense Studies from Madras University.
- Subramani served as Army Vice Chief from July 2024 to July 2025. Subramani has been working as a military advisor in the National Security Council Secretariat since 2025.
- In his military career spanning over 35 years, he has held many important operational and strategic positions.
- Subramani has been awarded the Sena Medal and Vishisht Seva Medal for his service during counter-insurgency operations in Assam (while leading 16 Garhwal Rifles).
- Subramani was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2020 and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal in 2024.
- Took command of 168 Infantry Brigade in Samba, Jammu and Kashmir. He was the Chief Instructor at the Defense Services Staff College, Wellington.

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan
- Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 1 July 1987.
- Swaminathan is an expert in communication and electronic warfare.
- Swaminathan has studied at the Joint Services Command and Staff College, College of Naval Warfare, UK and the US Naval War College, USA.
- Swaminathan commanded warships like INS Vidyut, INS Vinash, INS Kulish and INS Mysore in his naval career.
- Swaminathan has also been the commanding officer of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya.
- Krishna Swaminathan has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), 2017 Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM), and in 2021 Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).

Chief of Defense Staff
The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) is the senior most military officer who coordinates between the three forces of the country i.e. Army, Navy and Air Force.
- This is a four-star rank post. The CDS is also the permanent chairman of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (CoSC) and heads the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) of the Defense Ministry.
- The purpose of this post is to create better coordination between the three armies, prepare joint military strategy and speed up the decision-making process in defense matters.
- This post was created in December 2019. Bipin Rawat was the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff. The CDS advises the government and the Defense Ministry on military matters.
4. DRDO successfully tests Agni MIRV missile
On May 9, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) informed about the successful testing of Agni missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Test Center in Odisha.
- This missile has Multiple Independently Targeted Re-Entry Vehicle (MIRV) systems.
- Agni’s MIRV system can carry multiple nuclear weapons simultaneously.
- Multiple targets can be hit with fire at one time. During testing, the missile successfully hit many targets located at different places.
- All these targets were spread in the Indian Ocean region. India’s second Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM).
- The range of ICBM is about 5-7 thousand kilometers. Its speed is so high that it is almost impossible for the enemy radar and missile defense system to stop it.
- India has Agni-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 missiles in the Agni series. Agni-5 was India’s first intercontinental ballistic missile.
- It has been made by DRDO. This is one of the long range missiles available with India.
Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (ICBM)
ICBMs are missiles that can attack from one continent to another. It is equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV). That means it can be launched for multiple targets simultaneously.
- This missile can carry up to one and a half tonne nuclear weapons. Its speed is Mach 24, i.e. 24 times more than the speed of sound.
- Canister technology has been used in the launching system of Agni-5. Because of this, this missile can be easily transported anywhere.
- Agni-5 missile is also very easy to use, hence it can be deployed anywhere in the country.
- MIRV technology was first developed by America in 1970. By the end of the 20th century both the United States and the Soviet Union had several intercontinental and submarine launched ballistic missiles equipped with MIRVs.
India has Agni-1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 missiles in the Agni series.

5. Former minister D. Sudhakar passes away
On May 10, former Karnataka minister D. Sudhakar passed away. He was 65 years old. He served as a Cabinet Minister in the Government of Karnataka and represented Hiriyur constituency in the Karnataka Assembly.
- D. Sudhakar was elected as Karnataka Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Challakere constituency in 2004.
- Sudhakar won the election from Hiriyur constituency in 2008 and became a part of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
- Sudhakar 2008-2009 B.S. He was the Social Welfare Minister in the government led by Yediyurappa.
- Sudhakar was the Minister of Youth Affairs in the Government of Karnataka from 2010 to 2011.
- Sudhakar held portfolios like Social Welfare, Youth Affairs and later Planning and Statistics in the Government of Karnataka.
Sudhakar was associated with both the Indian National Congress and earlier the Bharatiya Janata Party during his political career.

6. WFI bans wrestler Vinesh Phogat from domestic games
On May 9, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has banned Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat from playing domestic competitions till June 26.
- WFI has also issued a show cause notice to Phogat on charges of indiscipline and violation of anti-doping rules.
- WFI wrote in a 15-page notice that Vinesh had not given notice six months in advance for her return from retirement.
- Violated the WFI Constitution, United World Wrestling (UWW) rules and anti-doping provisions.
- Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the Paris Olympics in August 2024 after being found overweight. Then he announced his retirement from wrestling.
- Vinesh is the first Indian female wrestler to win gold in both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games in 2018.
- Vinesh represented India at the Olympics in 2016, 2020 and 2024.
Vinesh was also a bronze winner in the World Wrestling Championships twice.
