1. CETA between India and Britain comes into effect from today
- The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between India and Britain will come into force on July 15.
- After implementation of CETA from today, 99% of Indian exporters’ goods will be able to reach the UK market with zero tariff.
- The benefit of this zero tariff will end on Indian exports like textiles, apparel, leather, gems and jewellery, marine products, engineering.
- The objective of this agreement is to promote trade, investment, services and economic cooperation between the two countries.
- With the implementation of CETA, customs duties (tariffs) on many goods between the two countries will be reduced.
- Along with this, cooperation in IT, financial services, education, health will increase in the service sector.
- With this, the average tariff on goods imported from UK will reduce from 15% to 3%. Also, 85% of goods will be completely tariff-free in 10 years.
- Under this agreement, there will be a big reduction in the duty on products like Scotch whiskey, gin, chocolate, biscuits and cosmetics coming to India from Britain.
- CETA will make it easier for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to access global markets.
- India and Britain started talks on Free Trade Agreement for the first time in 2022 and 14 rounds of talks have been held in 3 years.
- On July 24, 2025, the agreement was signed by Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and British Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds in the presence of PM Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart Keir Starmer.
- Under this agreement, a target was set to double the trade to 100 billion US dollars by 2030.

2. Table tennis pair Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah World Ranking- 2
- On 14 July, Indian men’s doubles table tennis pair Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah became the world number two players in the ITTF Men’s Doubles World Rankings.
- This is the best world ranking of any Indian men’s pair so far.
- Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah have current rankings of 3,390 rating numbers.
- Lin Shidong and Huang Yuzheng of China are at first place in this ranking, whose ranking is 5,160 points.
- A week ago, Manav Thakkar and Manush Shah were at number three in the ITTF rankings.
- The pair has benefited from consistent performances in the WTT calendar.
- He got 900 ranking points after reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 Singapore Smash.
- Manav and Manush also reached the quarterfinals of both the 2025 China Smash and 2025 Euro Smash.
The ITTF rankings are released by the International Table Tennis Federation.

3. Former Karnataka minister Ramachandra Gowda passes away
- On July 14, Karnataka minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ramachandra Gowda passed away. He was 88 years old.
- Ramchandra was also called ‘Bhishma of BJP’. He started his career with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Bharatiya Jan Sangh.
- Ramachandra played an important role in strengthening the BJP in Karnataka in the 1980s and was the General Secretary of Karnataka BJP for many years.
- Ramachandra was a cabinet minister in the Karnataka government. He was also the Medical Education Minister from 2008 to 2010.
- Ramachandra was also the Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka State Planning Board from 2010 to 2012.
Ramachandra retired from politics in 2017.

4. 3000 year old tomb found in Egypt
- On July 13, archaeologists discovered an ancient tomb in Egypt. This tomb is 3 thousand years old.
- This tomb dates back to the Pharaoh era i.e. New Kingdom period from approximately 1550 BC to 1069 BC.
- According to Hisham El, Secretary General of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities (SCA), the owner’s name is written as ‘Paser’ in the inscriptions found on the walls of the tomb.
- Based on the artefacts and paintings on the walls, it is believed to be an official of the king during the New Kingdom period.
- It has an open courtyard, an inverted ‘T’ shaped prayer chamber made by cutting rocks and several underground rooms.
- Special chambers have also been built beneath it for burial, which have been found largely safe even after thousands of years.
- During the excavation, archaeologists also found a platform made of mud bricks, which is believed to have been used in funeral rituals.
- Along with this, the stairs leading to the entrance have also been found in good condition. Archaeologists are currently conducting a detailed investigation of this tomb.
- Along with this, archaeologists are also researching what was the social role of the person buried here and what were the religious and cultural traditions in Egypt at that time.
- The Egyptian government hopes that this new discovery will increase global interest in the country’s archaeological heritage and will also boost the tourism sector.
According to experts, it matches the traditional style of private palaces of big officials of that period.
5. Ukraine and 9 countries of Europe form defense alliance
- On July 13, Ukraine and nine countries in Europe formed a new defense alliance to deal with Russia’s ballistic missile threat.
- Officials from all countries including French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Zelensky attended.
- The purpose of this new alliance is to create a common ballistic missile defense system for the whole of Europe.
- This decision was taken in the meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Paris.
- Ukraine, France, Germany, Britain, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Spain and Sweden participated in this meeting.
- The purpose of this meeting is to save Europe from the threats of Russia’s ballistic missiles.
- In this meeting, an integrated missile defense system will be developed for the whole of Europe.
- In this alliance, missile warning system will be developed and information related to it will be shared.
- All these countries will work together to promote joint military exercises and defense cooperation.
- It will also include the experiences of Ukraine, which has been fighting a war against Russia for four years.
In future other European countries will also join this alliance.

6. The mascot of the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship released
- On July 14, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta unveiled the official mascot of the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship.
- This mascot has been named ‘Peacock’. This mascot is based on the peacock, the national bird of India.
- On this occasion, Cabinet Minister of Delhi Government Ashish Sood and senior officials of Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) also participated.
- This championship will be organized from 27th July to 2nd August in New Delhi.
- This tournament will be jointly organized by Delhi Government and Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI).
- More than 25 athletes from Commonwealth countries will showcase their talent on one platform. .
