NEET-UG 2027, the country’s biggest medical entrance exam, will run for at least six days. It will be conducted completely in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode. More than 1 thousand examination centers will be set up across the country for the examination. These changes are being made after the NEET paper leak controversy.
National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET every year for admission to medical colleges. Till now this examination has been conducted in pen-paper mode.
Every year around 25 lakh candidates participate in NEET-UG. PTI quoted sources as saying that a new plan for the examination is still being prepared. Like the engineering entrance exam JEE, NEET will also be held on different days.

Paper leak controversy due to change in exam mode
This change in NEET 2024 has come to light after the controversy over paper leak and other irregularities. After this, the Central Government had announced that NEET-UG will now be conducted in CBT mode instead of pen-paper. This change was under discussion between the education and health ministries for many years, but the process of examination reforms accelerated after the paper leak controversy.
On the basis of the results of this examination, admission is also given to graduate courses in Dentistry, Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medicine.
This year the exam was held on 3rd May, canceled after 9 days
This year i.e. in 2026, the NEET-UG exam was held on May 3 in 551 cities of the country and 14 centers abroad. About 20 lakh candidates had appeared in it. According to NTA, information about irregularities in the examination was received on the evening of May 7. After this the matter was handed over to the central agencies.
On May 12, the exam was canceled and the decision to re-exam was taken. On May 15, the Education Ministry and NTA announced the date of NEET re-exam. CBI is investigating this matter.
Committee was formed for reforms
