1. PM Modi reached Indonesia on a 6-day visit

  • PM Modi is on a visit to 3 countries Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand from 6 to 11 July.
  • PM Modi first reached Indonesia on his first day’s visit.
  • In Indonesia, he first met President Prabowo Subianto and also visited Prambanan Temple.
  • During this visit, he will discuss issues like maritime security, defense cooperation, trade, energy, digital cooperation and connectivity in Indonesia.
  • After this, on July 8, PM Modi will reach Australia and will hold talks with Australian PM Anthony Albanese.
  • Trade, investment, defence, critical minerals education and Indo-Pacific cooperation will be discussed in this dialogue.
  • On July 10, PM Modi will reach New Zealand and meet PM Christopher Luxon.
  • This will be the first visit of an Indian PM to New Zealand in almost 40 years.
  • Issues such as defense cooperation, maritime security, trade, investment, digital cooperation and partnership in the Indo-Pacific region are also expected to be discussed during the visit.

4. 13th century inscription found in Andhra Pradesh

  • These inscriptions are important archaeological evidence of medieval South Indian history.
  • These inscriptions are believed to be from the time of Kakatiya dynasty or its contemporary rulers.
  • This inscription deals with the social, religious and administrative history of medieval Andhra Pradesh.

5. Two non-Muslims included in Waqf Board for the first time

  • On July 6, Madhya Pradesh included two Hindu (non-Muslim) members in the Waqf Board for the first time in the country.
  • This change has been made in the Waqf Board under the (Amendment) Act, 2025. Under this new rule, a rule has been made to include non-Muslim members in the board.
  • Under this amendment, Madhya Pradesh Waqf Board has appointed Hindu members Manoj Malpani (Indore) and Animesh Bhargava (Guna) for the first time.
  • With this, Sanwar Patel has been made the chairman of the board. Madhya Pradesh is the first state in the country to do so.
  • Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav has approved the 10-member board.
  • Its objective is to bring greater transparency in the management of Waqf properties.

Waqf Board (Amendment) Act, 2025

  • The Waqf Board Act was enacted in 1995.
  • Many changes have been made in the Waqf Board (Amendment) Act, 2025.
  • Many important amendments were made in it like ban on ‘Waqf by user’ i.e., the system of declaring a property as Waqf only on the basis of long-term religious use was abolished.
  • Pre-registered properties are given protection subject to conditions.
  • Under this, Section 40 was removed, under which they could unilaterally declare any property as Waqf.
  • Provision has been made to protect the rights of women, children, widows and other legitimate heirs, so that their legal rights are not affected before declaring Waqf.
  • Digital records, survey and online registration of Waqf properties were promoted.
  • According to the new rule, now two non-Muslim members can be nominated in the Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards.
  • Also, emphasis has been laid on digitization of records, better administration and accountability to bring transparency in the management of Waqf properties.
  • Waqf Board is a statutory body which manages and protects Waqf properties.
  • Waqf is property that a Muslim person donates for religious, educational or charitable purposes.

6. World’s oldest banyan tree found in Bihar

  • On July 6, the world’s oldest banyan tree was found in Munger, Bihar.
  • On the basis of scientific research, it is considered to be the oldest in the world, being more than 700 years old.
  • This research has come to light after carbon dating and scientific research of about three years.
  • In this research, scientists from Lucknow’s Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (Paleobotany), BSIP, Lucknow have used carbon dating technology.
  • Banyan trees do not form annual rings like normal trees, hence modern carbon dating technology was used to determine its age.
  • The height of this banyan is about 60 feet and spread is about 100 m.
  • Bihar government can declare this tree as ‘Heritage Tree’.
