This time in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) 2026, the competition is going to increase more than ever. More than 30.66 lakh candidates have applied for 12,256 vacant posts in different ministries and departments of the Central Government. There will be competition between about 250 candidates for one post in this exam.
For the first time in this recruitment, sectional timing has been implemented, due to which the pattern of the examination has also changed. The correction window will be open for the candidates from 1st to 7th July.

The online application process ran from 21 May to 22 June 2026. Candidates who have any mistake in their application form can make amendments in it through the correction window from July 1 to July 7. The Commission has advised the candidates to check all the information thoroughly before making changes.

Paper-3 added to Tier-2
- Paper 1 – Compulsory for all candidates.
- Paper 2 – For Junior Statistical Officer/Statistical Investigator posts.
- Paper 3 – For Assistant Audit Office (AAO) and Assistant Accounts Officer (AAO) posts (Finance & Economics subjects).
Minimum qualifying marks :
- UR: 30%
- OBC, EWS : 25%
- Others: 20%
Selection in Tier-2 on the basis of Tier-1
Tier-1 computer based examination of SSC CGL 2026 may be held in August-September 2026. Whereas Tier-2 examination may be held in December 2026. On the basis of Tier-1 marks, candidates will be shortlisted for Tier-2.
Final merit will be prepared on the basis of Tier-2 performance and preference of posts chosen by the candidate. After final selection, the process of document verification will be completed by the concerned department.
Last year, Tier 1 exam was held between 12 September to 26 September 2025. Whereas Tier-2 was held on 18 and 19 January 2026.

SSC CGL is one of the most prestigious graduate level recruitment examinations of the Government of India. Through this, recruitment is done on Group B and Group C posts in various ministries, departments and organizations.
