NATIONAL
1. Prime Minister Modi will visit Surat and Daman today
- On June 5, PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 21000 crore in Gujarat and Daman.
- The PM will first reach Surat and inaugurate the 200-bed ESIC hospital.
- Modi will lay the foundation stone of projects worth more than Rs 18,800 crore in Surat itself. These include projects related to road, power and industrial sector.
- After this, PM Modi will go to Daman and launch development projects costing about Rs 2,970 crore.
- These projects are related to healthcare, civil aviation, tourism infrastructure, connectivity and public welfare.

The PM will also inaugurate the new terminal of Namo Airport and Namo Hospital to be built at a cost of Rs 1,340 crore.
2. PM Modi met Venezuelan President Delsey Rodriguez
- On June 4, Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Aloina Rodriguez Gomez met PM Modi in New Delhi.
- In this meeting, the heads of both the countries discussed bilateral relations between India and Venezuela and increased energy security.
- New opportunities for trade and investment, strengthening cooperation in pharmaceuticals and health care were also discussed in this meeting.
- Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar also met Delsey Rodriguez.
- Delsey Rodriguez reached Delhi on June 3 on a five-day visit to India.
- The objective of Delsey’s visit is to review India-Venezuela relations and enhance cooperation between the two countries in key areas such as trade, investment and energy.
- India is importing about 427,000 barrels of oil per day from Venezuela from May 2026.
- Currently Venezuela has become the second largest importer of oil for India.

Venezuelan President Delsey had earlier come to India as Energy Minister in 2025.
3. Central government signs water conservation MoU with 4 states
- On June 3, the central government signed MoUs with four states to increase safe drinking water supply in rural India.
- It has been named Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0.
- This MoU has been done with Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Nagaland and Union Territory Puducherry.
- This MoU was signed by Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil and CMs of the respective states and senior officials of the Centre’s Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDDS).
- The objective of this MoU is to increase drinking water supply in rural areas.
- Under this MoU, all the service centers and community models falling within the limits of Gram Panchayat will be linked to it.

4. Russia handed over S-400 air defense systems to India
- On June 3, Russia handed over the fourth squadron of S-400 air defense system to India.
- India had signed a $5.43 billion agreement with Russia in 2018 for five S-400 air defense systems.
- Three S-400 squadrons have already been inducted into service and now India has got the fourth S-400 squadron.
- S-400 is the most modern long-range air defense system, which can target enemy jets, aircraft and drones at a range of 400 km.
- The Artificial Intelligence system present in the S-400 will give signals to missiles, fighter jets, drones and cruise missiles.
- S-400 also played an important role in air defense during Operation Sindoor.

India may get its last S-400 squadron in 2027.

5. Former CBFC Chairman Pahlaj Nihalani passes away
- On June 4, producer and former CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) chairman Pahlaj Nihalani passed away. He was 76 years old.
- In 1982, Pahlaj Nihalani started his career as a producer by making his first film ‘Hathkadi’.
- After this, in 1985, Pahlaj’s second film ‘Aandhi-Toofan’ was released, which gave him recognition as a producer in Bollywood.
- As a producer, Pahlaj Nihalani made films like ‘Hathkadi’ (1982), ‘Shola Aur Shabnam’ (1992), ‘Aankhen’ (1993), ‘Andaz’ (1994), ‘Talaash’ (2003), and ‘Rangeela Raja’ (2019).
- Pahlaj Nihalani was the Chairman of CBFC from 2015 to 2017.
- During his tenure, he was also accused of unnecessarily shortening violent and intimate scenes from films.
- He was criticized a lot on social media for shortening the kissing scene from the James Bond series film ‘Spectre’.

Nihalani had reportedly asked for 69 cuts in Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Udta Punjab’, which was much talked about.
6. Illustration artist Marjan Satrapi passes away
- On June 4, Iranian-French illustration artist Marjane Satrapi died. She was 56 years old.
- Marjan was a cartoonist, political novelist and film director.
- His novel ‘Persepolis’ is considered to be the world’s most popular graphic novel.
- The novel describes his childhood experiences in Iran during and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
- Marjan also co-directed the animated film, Persepolis.
- Persepolis also won the Cannes Film Festival Jury Prize and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Feature.

Marjan’s graphic novels are taught in schools and universities.
