1. General N.S. Raja Subramani appointed CDS
- 31 May General N.S. Raja Subramani took over as the country’s new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS).
- General Subramani was given a guard of honor at South Block Lawns in Delhi immediately after assuming office.
- General Subramani also holds the post of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) in the Defense Ministry.
- General Subramani is the third CDS of the country and has replaced General Anil Chauhan. General Chauhan retired on Saturday.
- General Subramani was commissioned into the Garhwal Rifle 8th Battalion on 14 December 1985.
- General Subramani became the Kharag Corps Commander in 2021. Khadga Corps is the most powerful and dangerous strike corps of the Army.
- General Subramani became the Chief of Staff of the Northern Command and took over as Goa-in-C Central Command in 2023.
- General Subramani became the Vice Chief of Army Staff in 2024.
- General Subramani to become Military Advisor in National Security Council Secretariat in 2025

2. Admiral Krishna Swaminathan becomes the country’s 27th Chief Naval Staff
- On 31 May, Admiral Krishna Swaminathan became the 27th Chief Naval Staff (CNS) of the country. He replaced Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi.
- Swaminathan joined the Indian Navy on 1 July 1987.
- Admiral Swaminathan has expertise in communications and electronic warfare.
- Admiral Swaminathan has commanded warships like INS Vidyut, INS Vinash, INS Kulish, INS Mysore, INS Vikramaditya.
- Admiral Swaminathan has been the Chief Staff (Training) Officer of the Southern Naval Command.
- Admiral Swaminathan was the Vice Chief of Naval Staff from May 2024 to July 2025.
- Admiral Swaminathan has been the Flag Officer Training from July 2025 to May 2026.
- Admiral Swaminathan became the Chief of Naval Staff on 9 May 2026.

Admiral Swaminathan was awarded the Param Visishtha Seva Medal (PVSM) in 2021.
3. Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met the President of Myanmar
- On May 30, Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing in New Delhi.
- There was discussion between the leaders of the two countries on enhancing bilateral cooperation and improving regional security.
- In this meeting, border security and connectivity projects between India and Myanmar were also discussed.
- During this visit, India and Myanmar will talk on border security, trade and investment, connectivity projects, defense corporation and energy and infrastructure development.
- During this visit, we can also discuss the 1,640 km long border line with the North-Eastern states of India.
- This meeting of the two heads is part of India’s Neighborhood First Policy.

SPORTS 4. Athlete Gulveer Singh completed the race in 4 minutes
- On May 30, athlete Gulveer Singh created history by completing a 1 km (about 1.6 meter) race in less than 4 minutes.
- Gulveer made this record in the ‘Music City Track Carnival’ organized in Tennessee, America. Gulveer is the first Indian athlete to complete the race in less than 4 minutes.
- Gulveer won bronze in the 10,000 km race in the Asian Games in 2022.
- Gulveer had won bronze in 5000 meters at the Asian Athletics Championships 2023.
- Gulveer made national records in 5 thousand meters and 10 thousand meters in 2024.
- Gulveer won double gold in 5 thousand meters and 10 thousand meters in the Asian Athletics Championship 2025.
- Gulveer broke the 2008 national record by running 10 thousand meters in a time of 27:00.22 in California in 2025.

Gulveer completed this race in 3 minutes 55.63 seconds.
5. High-jumper Pooja Singh wins gold in Asian U20
- On May 30, 19-year-old high-jumper Pooja Singh won the gold medal at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong, breaking a 14-year-old national record.
- Pooja has broken Sahana Kumari’s record of 1.92 meters in 2012 and recorded a record of 1.93 metres.
- Sahana is also Pooja’s coach. Pooja has her second medal in the Asian U20 Championship.
- Pooja started her career in 2025 as a high-jumper in the national junior circuit.
- Pooja had jumped 1.90 meters in the Indian Athlete Series to be held in New Delhi in 2026.
- In 2026, Pooja has created a new under-20 national record for India.
- Pooja has also crossed the AFI qualification mark (1.92 metres) set for the Commonwealth Games 2026.
- With this, Pooja has equaled India’s senior female high-jump national record holder (1.93 metres).

6. Temporary exemption on import duty on cotton applicable from June 1
- From June 1, the Central Government has removed 11% customs duty on cotton import. This relaxation will be applicable till 31st October.
- In this, 5% Basic Custom Duty (BCD) and 6% Agricultural Infrastructure and Development Cess (AIDC) levied on imported cotton has been completely removed.
- Now, cotton falling under the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 will be duty free from June to October.
- Besides, there will also be complete exemption from ‘Agriculture Cess’ (AIDC) levied under Section 124 of the Finance Act, 2021.
- The decision to remove customs duty is aimed at providing relief to the domestic textile industry and increasing the supply of raw materials.
- Removal of customs duty is expected to provide relief to MSME based textile and apparel industry.
- For a long time, there has been a demand from the garment and textile industry to remove the import duty on cotton.

According to the report, 4.5 crore people are associated with the textile industry.
7. Meghalaya to host 39th National Games 2027
- On 30 May, the Meghalaya government signed the ‘Host State Agreement’ to host the 39th National Games in 2027.
- This agreement took place during the inauguration ceremony of the indoor hall in Shillong and during this, Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma and Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha were present.
- This agreement is a revised agreement, which covers the legal, financial and operational responsibilities of both the Government of Meghalaya and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
- The 39th National Games will be held in Shillong, Tura and Jowai in 2027.
- Meghalaya has become the third north-eastern state to host the National Games after Assam and Manipur.

More than 10,000 athletes are likely to participate in the 39th National Games in 2027.
