NATIONAL
1. DK Shivakumar becomes the 24th CM of Karnataka
- On June 3, DK Shivakumar took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Karnataka.
- Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office to Shivkumar.
- With this, G Parameshwara became the new Deputy CM of Karnataka. Apart from these, 12 other MLAs also took oath as ministers.
- Former CM Siddaramaiah’s son Yatindra Siddaramaiah also took oath along with these MLAs.
- Shivakumar was elected leader at the Congress Legislature Party meeting on May 30.
- Shivakumar has replaced Siddaramaiah. He resigned from the post of CM on 28 May.

2. Anti-radiation missile Rudram-2 successfully tested
- On June 2, DRDO successfully tested anti-radiation missile Rudram-2.
- This testing of Rudram-2 was done with Sukhoi fighter jet of the Air Force (Su-30MKI).
- Rudram-2 missile can strike air to ground at a range of 300km.
- Anti-radiation missile is a weapon that targets enemy air defense systems, radar, communication systems and electronic surveillance networks.
- Rudram-2 missile is equipped with both inertial navigation and satellite navigation system.
- Rudram-1 was developed in 2020 and is India’s first anti-radiation missile.

3. Lokhande Prashant becomes the new chairman of CBSE.
- On June 2, the Central Government appointed senior IAS officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram as the new Chairman of CBSE.
- Lokhande Prashant Sitaram is a 2001 batch IAS officer of AGMUT cadre (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories).
- Lokhande was appointed as Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry in 2022 and was made Additional Secretary in March.
- Along with this, CBSE has appointed Varun Bhardwaj as the new secretary.
- Both the appointments have taken place after the On Screen Marking (OSM) controversy in CBSE 12th Board.
- Just a day before, the Central Government has transferred CBSE Chairman Rahul Singh and Secretary Himanshu Gupta.
- Former CBSE Chairman Rahul is a 1996 batch IAS and became the Chairman of CBSE in 2024.
- Apart from this, a one-member committee has been constituted to examine the tender and procurement process of OSM service.
- This committee will be headed by 1988 batch IAS S Radha Chauhan. The committee has been asked to submit the report within a month.
- S Radha is the chairperson of the Capacity Building Commission (CBC) from 2025.

4. Vipul becomes India’s new ambassador to Saudi Arabia
- On June 3, the Government of India appointed senior diplomat Vipul as the next Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia (UAE).
- Vipul is a 1998 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer.
- Vipul was Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs from 2014 to 2017.
- From 2017 to 2020, Vipul worked as the Consul General of India in UAE.
- Consul Generals work as advisors to their country in other countries.
- Vipul was also India’s Leading Diplomat in Qatar from 2023 to June 2026.
- Vipul will replace Sohail Ejaz Khan.

Vipul graduated from Delhi IIT in 1984.
5. Germany ends transit visa for Indians
- On June 3, Germany has abolished transit visas for Indian citizens.
- Now any Indian citizen will not need Airport Transit Visa (Type A) to transit at Germany airport while traveling to any third country.
- This rule comes into force after being published in the German Federal Law Gazette (Bundesgesetzblatt).
- This discount is only for passengers staying in the International Transit Area (Type A) of the airport. This is not for entry into Germany.
- If any Indian traveler wants to exit the airport or enter German territory, they will be required to obtain a visa.

- Transit visa is issued for halting journey from one country to another country.
- For example, if you are going from India to any other country (like America, Canada, UK) and the layover of your flight is at an airport in Germany, then there will be no need to obtain a separate transit visa.

6. Odisha’s coastal highway got approval
- On June 3, the Central Government approved the Coastal Highway Project in Odisha.
- This costal highway will be built at a cost of Rs 8,300 crore.
- This project is part of the 346 km long Odisha Coastal Highway, which will better connect the coastal areas of the state in future.
- In the first phase of the highway project, the 160 km long Rameshwar-Konark-Paradip route will be developed.
- According to this project, Rameshwar to Konark portion of the highway will be 4 laned and Konark to Paradip portion will be 2 laned.
- The highway will provide better transport facilities to the Special Economic Zones (SEZs) of Bhubaneswar and Khurda, Mega Food Park of Bhubaneswar, Fishery Clusters of Paradeep, Konark, Jagatsinghpur, Puri and Kendrapara and Pharma Cluster of Cuttack.
- Puri Railway Station, the proposed Puri Airport, Astaranga Port, Paradip Port and the multi-modal logistics park at Jagatsinghpur will also be connected under the project.
- The completion of this project will also facilitate relief and rescue operations during cyclones and other natural disasters.
