1. Results of assembly elections of 5 states declared

The results of the assembly elections held in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry were declared on 5 May. In this, BJP government was formed in 3 states.

2. Vietnamese President To Lam visits India

On May 5, Vietnamese President To Lam reached Gaya in Bihar on a three-day state visit to India. A high level delegation has also come to India with him.

3. Two journalists from India received Pulitzer Prize

The Pulitzer Prize is announced on May 4. In this, two Indian journalists Anand RK and Suparna Sharma have received the Pulitzer Prize for Illustrated Reporting.

• The Pulitzer Prize has been given for the reporting of a photo story exposing cyber crime in the country.
• Journalists had prepared this report for Bloomberg. Cyber ​​crime and human trafficking were exposed in this report.
• It was told how criminals trap people from many countries including India and imprison them in camps and make them cheat people of other countries.
• Anand is a Mumbai-based illustrator and visual artist who has won several awards. Whereas, Suparna Sharma is a freelance investigative journalist in India.
• Hanoi reporter Anirudh Ghoshal has been given this award in the International Reporting category.
• In his reporting, Anirudh had examined the surveillance equipment being used extensively by the US Border Patrol. These equipment were first made in Silicon Valley and later developed in China.
• In this report series it was also told how China and other countries are using these devices.
• Pulitzer Prize is a prestigious award in the field of journalism. It is given by Columbia University in America.
• The award carries a cash prize of US$15,000.
• The Pulitzer Prize is given mainly for outstanding work in the fields of journalism, literature and music.
• The Pulitzer Prize was established in 1917 following a bequest from newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer.
• This award is given in 23 different categories.
• Gobind Bihari Lal was the first Indian to receive this award in 1937.

• Anand RK is a painter and visual artist based in Mumbai.
• Anand graduated from Sir JJ School of Art in 2011.
• Anand won the 2021 Eisner Award for Best Painter/Multimedia Artist with artist John Pearson for Image Comics’ graphic novel ‘Blue in Green’.
• Anand created ‘Graffiti’s Wall’ (Dark Horse Comics), ‘Radio Apocalypse’ (Vault), and ‘Resurrection Man’ (DC Comics).
• Along with this, Anand designed covers for publishers like Boom Studios, 2000AD, Tiny Onion and Image Comics.
• Anand has also worked for Hyundai, The Indian Navy, ImagineFX Magazine and Heavy Metal Magazine.

• Suparna is a freelance journalist and editor, she has been in this field for more than three decades.
• Suparna has covered crime, national disaster and corruption in her career.
• In 2023, Suparna, in one of her investigations for Al-Jazeera, exposed the truth about the greed and negligence of the billion-dollar elder care community in India along with the death of two senior citizens.
• Suparna had also reported on the sexual harassment faced by India’s top female wrestlers after the country’s wrestler chief accused her of sexual harassment.
• Suparna had also done a report on how graduates of certain institutions in the country helped in manipulating voters and elections.
• Suparna has written stories for Al Jazeera, Rolling Stone India, BBC Africa, The Indian Express and Frontline.
• Suparna has been the editor of The Asian Age, senior correspondent at The Times of India and senior correspondent in the investigation team of The Indian Express.

4. Met Gala was organized in New York

The Met Gala was held on May 4 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This year the theme of Met Gala is ‘Costume Art’.

4. Malayalam actor Santosh Nair passes away

On May 4, famous Malayalam actor Santosh Nair passed away in a road accident. He was 66 years old.

• Santosh Nair started his career in 1982 with the film ‘Ithu Njangalude Katha’.
• Santosh worked in more than 100 films and appeared in many important roles.
• Santosh’s last film is Mohiniyattam, which was recently released on 10th April and is still running in theatres.

Santosh also played the lead role of villain in many films.
