Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the datesheet for the second session examination. According to the datesheet released by CBSE, the CBSE Class 10th second session examination will start from May 15 and will be conducted till May 21, 2026.

Who can give second board exam

Students who appeared in 10th session 1 exam and want to improve marks in maximum 3 subjects (including Science, Mathematics, Social Science and Language).

Those who got ‘compartment’ in the first phase or who were in the compartment category of 2025.

Sports students and first/third chance compartment students permitted by the Board can also appear for the Session 2 examination.
Who cannot take the exam?
Students who were previously absent in three or more subjects in the exam cannot appear for this exam.
The result of session 1 came on 15th April
Earlier, Central Board of Secondary Education i.e. CBSE had released the result of 10th session 1 on 15 April 2026. The passing percentage of girls in the exam was 94.99%, while the passing percentage of boys was 92.95%.
Transgender students also performed brilliantly this time with 91.30% result. Trivandrum region’s result was the best with 99.75%.
Merit list will not be released
CBSE board does not release merit list. Apart from this, no topper is also declared in the result. The board also directs all schools and educational institutions not to declare any child as the topper of the school or district. This year around 25 lakh students appeared in CBSE 10th Board Session – 2.
Exam held under the new two board system
This year CBSE has conducted the class 10th exam under the new two-board system. First board exam (mandatory): Held from 17 February to 11 March 2026.
33% passing marks required
To pass CBSE 10th Session – 1 examinations, it is necessary to score a minimum of 33% marks in both theory and internal assessment. This year, the 10th Board Session – 1 exam was conducted at more than 8 thousand exam centers in the country.

Question: When will the rule of having exams twice come into effect?
answer: This rule will be applicable from the session 2025-26. This means that board exams will be conducted twice in the year 2026.
Question: Will it be necessary to give the exam both times?
answer: No. Students will have 3 options – 1. Give the exam once a year. 2. Appear in both the examinations. 3. If you are not able to perform well in any subject, re-examine that subject in another exam.
Question: If the exam is given twice, how will the result be decided?
answer: The result of the students who will appear in the board exam both the times will be considered final, which will be better. That is, if the marks decrease after giving the exam for the second time, then only the marks of the first exam will be considered final.
Question: Will half the syllabus be asked in both the exams?
answer: No. Both the exams will be based on the entire syllabus. The format of the exam will also be the same in both the exams.
Question: Will there be a chance to give supplementary exam after two exams?
answer: No. Supplementary exam for class 10th will now be abolished.
Question: Will there be separate exam centers for both the board exams?
answer: No. The exam center will remain the same for both the exams.
Question: Will registration have to be done separately for both the exams? Fees will also be charged twice.
answer: No. Registration for both the examinations will have to be done only once. However, if you choose the option to appear for the exam twice, the fees will be charged together.
Question: Will practical exams also be held twice?
answer: No. Practical and internal exams will be held once. Like before, these will be organized in December-January.
