NATIONAL
1. Anurag Jain will be the new CEO of NITI Aayog
- On July 23, Anurag Jain was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog.
- The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Anurag’s name.
- Anurag will remain on this post for the next two years from the date of assuming charge.
- Anurag will replace interim CEO IAS Nidhi Chhibber.
- Nidhi was appointed to this post on 24 February.
- Anurag is a 1989 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.
- Anurag was holding the post of Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh from October 2024 till now, his tenure is ending on August 31.
- Anurag has long experience in many departments including health, forest, environment, agriculture, administration etc.
- Along with this, after this order, the General Administration Department of Madhya Pradesh has appointed senior IAS officer Ashok Baranwal as temporary secretary in place of Anurag.
- Ashok Shivraj Singh Chouhan made him his principal secretary in August 2016 and in 2018, when the Congress government was formed under the leadership of Kamal Nath, he was also the principal secretary.
- NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) is a major policy think tank of the Government of India that replaced the Planning Commission in 2015.
- The chairperson of NITI Aayog is the PM. Its Vice Chairman is appointed by the PM and the CEO is appointed by the Central Government.
2. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh flags-in ‘Samudra Pradakshina’
- On July 22, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh virtually flagged-in the ‘Samudra Pradakshina’ campaign through video conferencing.
- This is the first tri-service women’s crew sailing expedition of Army, Air Force and Navy.
- In this expedition, 9 women officers traveled for 314 days in the Indian Army’s sailing vessel Indian Army Sailing Vessel (IASV) Triveni.
- A distance of approximately 25,500 nautical miles was covered during this voyage.
- Chief of Defense Staff General NS Raja Subramani, Army Chief General Dheeraj Seth, Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan and Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh were also present on the occasion of flag-in.
- IASV Triveni was launched on 11 September 2025 from the Gateway of India, Mumbai.
- During this journey, IASV Triveni has circumnavigated three major capes – Cape Leeuwin (Australia), Cape Horn (South America) and Cape of Good Hope (Africa).
- IASV Triveni has completed its circumnavigation by passing through all longitudes and major latitudes including the Southern Ocean belt.
- The IASV Triveni crew took the open sea route without using any canal like the Panama or Suez Canal and ended the journey from where it started.
- The IASV Triveni expedition crew also included Major Karamjit Kaur, Major Omita Dalvi, Captain Prajakta Nikam, Lieutenant Commander Priyanka Gusain, Wing Commander Vibha Singh, Squadron Leader Aruvi Jaydev and Squadron Leader Vaishali Bhandari.
During this journey, the IASV Triveni crew successfully circumnavigated four oceans.
3. India and Panama agreed on maritime security cooperation
- On July 22, India and Panama agreed to enhance cooperation for maritime security.
- The Panama Canal in Panama is a major center of global maritime trade and is considered the gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean region.
- After this consent, India’s Directorate General of Shipping and Panama Maritime Authority will work together.
- After this agreement, both the countries will work together to strengthen partnership in port development, logistics, shipping and maritime transport.
- This partnership mainly focuses on logistics, digital innovation and global connectivity.
- Under this, cooperation in maritime education and skills and training of sailors will be increased.
- The Panama Canal is an important waterway for global trade, and this partnership will benefit Indian exporters.
- Under Digital Maritime Transformation, technologies like AI, Smart Port Logistics and Maritime Single Window will be worked together.
- With this agreement, it has also been proposed to increase cooperation on green ship recycling, modern warehousing and development of marine structure.
The initiative also supports India’s Sagarmala, Maritime India Vision 2030 and its strategy to strengthen global maritime connectivity.
4. DRDO awarded contract for Airbus A321 aircraft
- On July 23, DRDO and Adani Defense and Aerospace jointly signed a major MoU for the Next-Generation Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C-MKII) program.
- The objective of this MoU is to strengthen the air surveillance, early warning and command control capabilities of the Indian Air Force.
- DRDO will lead technical design, research and development in this program.
- Whereas Adani Defense and Aerospace will do the production and integration of AEW&C-MKII.
- The AEW&C Mk-II platform will be equipped with modern AESA radar, long-range surveillance capability and network-centric warfare system.
- DRDO has also made this deal with AI Engineering Services Limited (AIESL).
- Under which 6 Airbus A321 aircraft will be converted into ‘green configuration’ for military use.
- These aircraft will be converted to Netra Mk II Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) system.
- Along with this, the responsibility of logistics, maintenance, repair, overhaul (MRO) and technical support for about 30 years will also be a part of this program.
- Its objective is to detect enemy long-range aircraft, missiles and drones and to help in command and control during air strikes.
- Till now only five countries namely US, France, Israel, China and Sweden have developed indigenous AEW&C capability.
- India will also join it after the AEW&C-MKII program.
These aircraft will be able to identify enemy aircraft and missiles from long distances and indigenous radars and sensors will be installed in the aircraft.

4.India sends aid to Kenya to deal with Ebola
- On July 23, India sent its first medical consignment of 4.5 tonnes to Kenya to deal with Ebola.
- This aid amount was handed over by India’s High Commissioner Adarsh Swaika to Kenya’s Health Minister Aidan Duale at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
- The first tranche of assistance includes 279 packages, which include PPE kits, sample transportation kits, infrared thermometers, face shields, heavy-duty safety boots, infection prevention materials.
- India has sent this medical assistance under ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ to help neighboring and friendly countries.
This is part of the expansion of India’s ‘Vaccine Maitri’ and ‘Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR)’ policy.
5. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya participated in the Glasgow Commonwealth meeting
- On July 23, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya participated in the Commonwealth Sports Ministers meeting in Glasgow.
- Sports ministers of all the participating Commonwealth countries participated in this meeting.
- In this meeting, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya held talks with Shirley Ayorkor Botchwe, Secretary General of the Commonwealth.
- Told about the major reforms made in sports in India, such as ‘Khelo Bharat Policy’ and ‘Asmita League’.
- In this meeting, hosting of Commonwealth Games to be held in Ahmedabad in 2030 was also discussed.
- In this meeting, India also expressed its desire to chair the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS) for the 2026–2030 term.
- Pramandaviya successfully landed back in the Ocean Ocean during the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026.
