Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission is conducting the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2026 from July 2 to 4. The UP government has taken two big decisions for the serving teachers regarding this exam. First, now TET will be conducted for working teachers also. Secondly, serving teachers appearing in UPTET will also get leave from school to take the examination.
This examination will be conducted twice a year. The department has fixed a time limit of 2 years to pass the examination. Even after this, if you are not able to pass the exam, you will lose your job. Even if the age of the teachers is 40-45 years.
1.85 lakh teachers are giving UPTET to save their jobs
On September 1, 2025, the Supreme Court bench comprising Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Manmohan ruled that it will now be mandatory for candidates who became primary teachers without passing TET to pass TET. If they do not do so, they will be fired from the job. In such a situation, there are 1.85 lakh candidates who are appearing for the exam to save their jobs.
However, teachers strongly opposed this decision. In this regard, memorandums were sent to the Prime Minister and a demand for amendment in this law was also raised in the Parliament. But all these efforts remained futile in front of the Supreme Court’s decision to make the examination mandatory.
2 teachers died due to stress
