Seeing the importance of Artificial Intelligence, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivkumar has announced today i.e. on July 14 that the country’s first government Artificial Intelligence (AI) University will be established in the state. Along with this, an AI hub will also be created, where startups, researchers and companies will be able to work together on new technology.

AI education and research will get a boost

The Chief Minister made this announcement related to AI University and Hub during the Google I/O Connect India 2026 event held in Bengaluru. He said that the objective of the proposed AI University is to prepare global level AI experts. Here students will get the opportunity to connect with research and industry along with education in modern technology. This will also develop better coordination between the university, industry and government.

The campus will be developed in about 100 acres in Bengaluru.

The government aims to use AI to improve education, improve health services, provide better advice to farmers, and make government services faster and transparent.

The main campus of the proposed AI University will be developed over approximately 100 acres in Bengaluru. There are plans to set up its regional campuses in Kalaburagi, Belagavi, Hubli-Dharwad, Mangaluru and Mysuru.

Told AI to be the important technological revolution of the current generation

Addressing technology leaders, entrepreneurs, developers, researchers and policy makers, Shivakumar said that AI is the most important technology revolution of the current generation. He compared it to the advent of the steam engine, electricity, the Internet and mobile technology.

He said that Bengaluru is not only the technology capital of India but also one of the largest innovation ecosystems in the world. Karnataka’s vision is to become one of the world’s leading hubs for AI.

Government aims to make Karnataka an AI-native state

Shivakumar said Karnataka’s share in India’s software exports is 40%. Whereas Bengaluru has more than 17,000 startups and thousands of Global Capability Centers (GCCs), which design products for the global market.

The Chief Minister said that the government aims to make Karnataka an AI-native state, where artificial intelligence can improve governance and public service delivery.

Partnership with Google also praised

According to Shivkumar, with the help of AI, teachers will be able to give better education. Doctors will be able to detect diseases early. Farmers will get better advisory service. Citizens will benefit from government services and small businesses will definitely be able to compete with confidence.

The Chief Minister also praised Google’s two-decade-old partnership with Karnataka and said that Bengaluru has become one of the company’s major global engineering, research and innovation centres. He said that products like Search, Android, YouTube, Maps, Chrome, Gmail and Google Pay have changed the way Indians get information, do business and use government services. New opportunities will open for students

With the start of AI University, students will get an opportunity to learn ultra-modern technology. They will also get better opportunities to work with research, startups and big tech companies. The government believes that this initiative will prove to be an important step towards making Karnataka a global hub for responsible and trustworthy AI development.
