5. West Bengal implemented two new laws

  • On July 13, the West Bengal government has implemented two new laws to crack down on organized crime, riots and anti-social activities.
  • West Bengal Governor RN Ravi had approved this law on June 29.

  • This law has been made to control organized crime and anti-social activities.

  • Many crimes have been kept in the category of cognizable, i.e., in which the criminal can be arrested without any warrant.

2. West Bengal Maintenance of Public Order (Amendment) Act 2026

  • Under this law, compensation for damage caused to public and private property during riots, arson, violence or vandalism will be ensured.
  • There will be a provision to auction the property of the guilty persons to recover the loss amount.
  • Financial accountability will be imposed on those who damage public property.

6. Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway inaugurated

  • Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway was inaugurated on July 13. It is 63 km long.
  • This expressway was inaugurated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
  • Along with this, other National Highway projects costing about Rs 4,850 crore were also inaugurated in Lucknow.
  • This expressway starts from Shaheed Path in Lucknow and goes to Kanpur via Unnao.
  • This expressway has been developed parallel to the existing NH-27, which will reduce traffic pressure on the old route.
  • The total construction cost of this expressway is Rs 4,700 crore.
  • This expressway is the first barrier free tolling expressway of UP.
