1. Anil Menon of Indian origin will go to the International Space Station
- On July 14, Indian-origin American astronaut Anil Menon will go to the International Space Station (ISS) on NASA’s next mission.
- Anil will also be accompanied by Russian astronauts Anna Kikina and Pyotr Dubrov.
- This mission is part of the Joint Commercial Crew Program of NASA and SpaceX.
- It will be launched from SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon rocket.
- Anil is an American physician and astronaut of Indian origin.
- Anil first joined SpaceX in 2018 and played an important role in the company’s first human flight.
- In 2021, Anil was a part of NASA’s astronaut training. Along with this, he has also been a part of the Himalayan Rescue Association.
- Before becoming an astronaut, Anil worked as a flight surgeon at SpaceX.
- Anil will do research on the effects of staying in space for a long time on the human body.
- In this human mission of ISS, experiments related to health, biology, earth observation and new space technologies will be conducted.

2. INS Mahendragiri will be commissioned in the Navy
- On July 11, the Indian Navy will officially induct the Project 17A stealth frigate ‘INS Mahendragiri (F38)’ into the naval fleet at Visakhapatnam.
- The Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy has designed INS Mahendragiri.
- INS Mahendragiri is built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited of Mumbai.
- The ship is named after the Mahendragiri mountain range of the Eastern Ghats.
- This frigate runs on the modern ‘Combined Diesel or Gas’ (CODOG) propulsion system.
- The propulsion system not only enables the frigate to move at higher speed, but also increases its ability to survive long-term maritime operations.
- Made with more than 75 percent indigenous components and technology, ‘Mahendragiri’ is a great example of the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
- INS Mahendragiri is equipped with advanced stealth (low radar detection) technology.
- INS Mahendragiri is equipped with BrahMos supersonic cruise missile and Barak-8 air defense missile system.
- INS Mahendragiri is capable of anti-submarine warfare systems, air defense and surface warfare operations.
- INS Mahendragiri is equipped with state-of-the-art radar, sensors, electronic warfare systems and high level automation.
- All the ships of Project 17A are being built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers.
- The induction of INS Mahendragiri into the Navy further strengthens India’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and indigenous defense manufacturing capability.
- INS Mahendragiri includes modern surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missile systems.

- On July 10, the first match of Australia’s prestigious Big Bash League (BBL) 2026–27 was announced to be played in Chennai, India.
- This will be the first time in the history of BBL that an official match of the league will be held outside Australia.
- This is the first time that India is going to host a match of a foreign cricket league.
- This match will be held on 12 December 2026 at M.A. Will be held at Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai).
- The first match of this league will be between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers.
- This is the first match in the history of BBL which will be held outside Australia.
- This initiative has been taken to promote the sports collaboration roadmap between India and Australia.
- It aims to increase the popularity of BBL in India, strengthen cricket collaborations and expand the reach of the league.
- The opener of the 2026-27 season of Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) will be held in Chennai.
- Australia’s Big Bash League is a T20 cricket league, it consists of two tournaments.
- One tournament is the men’s KFC Big Bash League and the other is the women’s Weber Women’s Big Bash League.

4. Women’s team played cricket at Lord’s after 142 years
- On July 10, the women’s team played a Test match for the first time at Lord’s, which is called the Mecca of cricket.
- The first men’s Test match was played at Lord’s between England and Australia in July 1884.
- After 142 years, now a women’s test match will be held on this ground, in which the teams of India and England will face each other.
- Lord’s is also called the Home of Cricket and this will be the 153rd Test match in the history of women’s cricket.
- The first women’s ODI at Lord’s was played between England and Australia on 4 August 1976.
- So far 15 women’s Tests have been played between India and England. Of these, India has won 3 matches and England has won 1 match, while 11 matches have been drawn.
- The captain of the Indian team is Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana is the vice captain of the team.
- India has included Harleen Deol, spinner Shri Charani and fast bowler Nandini Sharma in the Test team for the first time.

5. BSNL launches its first satellite phone in India
- July 10: Government telecom company BSNL started its new satellite phone service.
- The price of this satellite phone has been kept at around Rs 1.34 lakh.
- These satellite phones will be able to make calls directly through satellite without any mobile tower.
- The use of this phone is especially designed for those working in disaster areas, dense forests and maritime borders.
- It will prove to be a reliable source of communication in difficult areas.
- BSNL has made this phone handset in partnership with global satellite network provider ‘Inmarsat’.
- To buy this satellite phone, it will be necessary to take permission from the government.
- It will not be available directly at the shop like a normal phone or gadget. There are strict rules regarding satellite phones in India.
- Before purchasing or using this phone, it will be mandatory for the user to obtain approval or authorization from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
- Possessing or operating a satellite phone without government approval can lead to legal action under Indian laws.

6. ICMR High Altitude Medicine Center will start in Himachal Pradesh
- On July 11, Union Minister J.P. Nadda will lay the foundation stone of ‘ICMR High Altitude Medicine Centre’ in Keylong, Himachal Pradesh.
- ICMR center will do research on diseases occurring in high altitude areas.
- It will be operated by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
- This center will be for army personnel and local people who live at high altitude.
- In this centre, solutions to health problems related to lack of oxygen and cold will be found.
- This center will have modern laboratories and emergency medical facilities.
- This center will also promote medical tourism and research in the Himalayan region.
- This center will include maternal and child health, disaster medicine, diseases related to climate change, digital health, telemedicine.
- This center will work in collaboration with the Armed Forces Medical Services, Defense Research and Development Organization, Government of Himachal Pradesh and national and international research institutes.
7. World Bank approves US$890 million
- On July 10, the World Bank approved financial assistance of US$890 million (approximately ₹7,400 crore) for India’s rooftop solar program.
- The World Bank has given this approval to expand the free electricity scheme for every household.
- This will promote clean energy in the country. Its benefit will be in the electricity used in the house.
- This will promote the expansion of clean and renewable energy and self-reliance in electricity.
