Integrated District Education Information System on School Education of India (UDISE+) and AISHE’s report highlights two different aspects related to education. According to UDICE report, 13 schools were closed every day in the country. Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront among the states in closing schools.
AISHE report shows that the number of girls in higher education has increased. The report said that in 2025-26, the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of girls in higher education was recorded at 31.2, which is higher than that of boys.
UDISE+ report:
Of the closed schools, 2,426 are from Madhya Pradesh only.
Every day 13 schools are being closed across the country. A total of 4791 schools were closed across the country during the year 2025-26. Madhya Pradesh is at the forefront in school closure. More than half of the total schools closed in the country, 2,426, are from Madhya Pradesh alone.

1392 schools of Telangana closed
During the year 2024-25, there were 14 lakh 71 thousand 473 schools in the country. But in 2025-26 this number reduced to 14 lakh 66 thousand 682. Of the remaining schools to be closed, 1392 were in Telangana, 568 in West Bengal, 474 in Andhra Pradesh, 369 in Tamil Nadu, 281 in Karnataka and 266 in Himachal Pradesh.

No students in 5,663 schools, teachers 20,667 For the first time, there has been a decline in the number of schools with zero enrolment, i.e. schools without students, in the country. Schools with zero enrollment decreased from 7,993 to 5,663 in the last one year. 20,667 teachers are also deployed among them.
Last year, an increase of 321 was recorded in the number of such schools in West Bengal. 1,573 teachers also studied in these schools, who do not have to teach anyone. There are now 19,502 teachers in 4,133 schools in West Bengal, who do not have the responsibility of teaching anyone.
In the last session in Uttar Pradesh, there were 81 schools without enrollment and 56 teachers did not have the responsibility of teaching anyone. In 2025-26, the number of schools without enrollment increased to 313 and the number of teachers in these schools increased to 177. The most interesting state is Chhattisgarh where there was not a single school with zero enrollment in 2024-25 but there were 149 such schools in 2025-26. 140 teachers are also posted there.

AISHE report:
Number of girls in higher education increased
The Union Ministry of Education has released the report of All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24. According to the report, the scope of higher education in the country is continuously increasing, under which the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) in higher education has increased to 30 for the first time.
The report said that the GER of girls in higher education was recorded at 31.2, which is higher than that of males. This shows that participation of girls in higher education has increased, which is a new record in itself. In AISHE the institute itself uploads the data on the portal. 56,180 higher education institutes participated in the survey in the year 2022-23 and 59,533 in 2023-24. Participation was more than 90% in both years.
More women in higher education for the 7th consecutive year
According to the report, the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of higher education was 23.7 in the year 2014-15, which increased to 29.5 in the year 2022-23. Whereas in the year 2023-24 it has been recorded at 30. Whereas the participation of women in this i.e. GER was 22.9 in the year 2014-15, which has increased to 31.2 in the year 2023-24.
In this way the number of women in higher education increased. The report states that the Gender Parity Index (GPI) will be 1.08 in 2023-24. This means that for the seventh consecutive year, participation of women in higher education was higher than that of men.
Number of SC students also increased in higher education
According to the report, participation of socially deprived sections in getting higher education has also increased, under which the enrollment of Scheduled Caste (SC) students increased from 46.07 lakh in 2014-15 to 69.72 lakh in 2023-24.
Whereas the enrollment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) students increased from 16.41 lakh to 28.83 lakh. At the same time, enrollment of Other Backward Class (OBC) students also increased from 1.13 crore to 1.80 crore.
Number of women teachers increased to 7.78 lakh
According to the report, the number of teachers in higher education institutes has also increased. A total of 17.32 lakh teachers are employed in the year 2023-24, of which 55.1% are men and 44.9% are women. The number of women teachers increased from 5.69 lakh in 2014-15 to 7.78 lakh in 2023-24.
