NATIONAL
1. Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi came to India on a 3-day visit
- On July 1, Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi came to India on a three-day official visit.
- Takaichi will also participate in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit on this occasion.
- The aim of Takaichi’s India-Japan visit is to strengthen strategic and global partnership.
- During this period, Japan-India Economic Forum will also be organised, in which more than 150 people from Japan’s business community will participate.
- Along with this, both the countries will also talk about increasing cooperation in the fields of trade, investment, defense and security.
- During this visit, there will be talks on promoting cooperation in technology, structure, clean energy and supply chain.
- This summit will be related to the issues of reviewing and strengthening all aspects of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
- India and Japan are also currently in talks for direct yen-rupee trade.
- India–Japan bilateral relations were given the status of ‘Special Strategic and Global Partnership’ in 2014.
- The India-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement came into force on August 1, 2011, and the trade is expected to exceed $27 billion by 2025-26.

This is Takaichi’s first official visit to India as PM.
2. Air Marshal Ashutosh takes over as Vice Chief of Air Force
- On 1 July, Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit took over as the 51st Vice Chief of the Air Staff.
- Air Marshal Ashutosh has replaced Air Marshal Nagesh Kapoor.
- Currently Air Marshal Ashutosh was the Chief of Integrated Defense Staff (CISC).
- Air Marshal Ashutosh has been working on improving coordination and operational synergy between the Armed Forces Army, Navy and Air Force.
- Air Marshal Ashutosh was commissioned in the fighter stream in December 1986.
- In his four decade long military career, Air Marshal Ashutosh has played important roles in operations, training.
Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS)
- It is the second highest post in the Indian Air Force.
- The Vice Chief is the senior most associate of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).
- The job of the Vice Chief is to oversee the operations, modernization, strategic war plans and deployment of forces of the Air Force.
- The Vice Chief, in times of war and peace, is subordinate to the Chief of the Air Staff, planning defense operations and implementing strategic decisions.
- The Vice Chief oversees and manages indigenous programs to modernize the Air Force’s fleet, equipment and systems.

Air Marshal Ashutosh is one of the senior fighter pilots of the Indian Air Force.
Resignation
3. Noel Tata will resign from the post of chairman of Voltas.
- On June 30, Noel Tata informed about his resignation from the post of Chairman of Voltas in the company’s Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Noel will resign from the post of chairman of Voltas after completing 70 years of age in November this year.
- As per Tata Group’s corporate governance policy, all executive directors retire at the age of 65 and non-executive directors at the age of 70.
- Under the same policy, Noel Tata had also resigned from the post of chairman of Tata Group’s retail arm Trent last week.
- Noel Tata took over as Chairman of Voltas in the year 2017.
- These companies include Titan, Tata Investment Corporation, Tata Steel and Tata International, from where they will exit by the end of this year.
Voltas
- Voltas is India’s leading engineering and air conditioning company.
- Voltas is part of the Tata Group and was established in September 1954.
- The current chairman of Voltas is N. Chandrasekaran.
- Voltas is formed by a joint venture between Tata Group and Swiss company Volkart Brothers.

Apart from Voltas, Noel will also retire from the boards of many other big companies of Tata Group by the end of this year.
International
4. US Supreme Court reserved the decision on citizenship based on birth
- On June 30, the US Supreme Court has decided to retain American citizenship of children born in America.
- Every American citizen born in the United States, regardless of whether their parents are living in the country illegally or have come on a temporary visa, is a US citizen.
- This law has been in force in America for the last 158 years that every child born there becomes an American citizen as soon as he is born.
- This right is given in the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution.
- The Supreme Court has given this decision against the orders of President Donald Trump.
- President Trump had issued an order to ban birthright citizenship.
- After this the matter again reached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has now given the final decision saying that Trump’s order has been canceled considering it unconstitutional.
- After the American Civil War ended in 1865, the 14th Amendment was ratified in the US Parliament in July 1868.
- According to government data, currently about 54 lakh people of Indian origin live in America. This is approximately 1.6% of the total US population.
- A large number of these are Indians who are working in America on H-1B visa. Most of these people are working in fields like technology, engineering, healthcare and finance.
5. India and Saudi Arabia signed an MoU for water conservation
- On June 30, India and Saudi Arabia signed an MoU for water conservation.
- This MoU was done to promote sustainable efficient management of water resources.
- Both countries will work on water conservation, water security and improvement of water quality.
- Under this MoU, modern technologies like rain water harvesting, ground water management, water re-cycling and waste water treatment will be exchanged.
- To promote research in the process of extracting salt from sea water and water innovation.
- This agreement will be helpful in dealing with water crisis, increasing water capacity and ensuring water security in the long run.

Under this MoU, technology, information and best practices related to water conservation will be exchanged between the two countries.
