NATIONAL
1. General Upendra Dwivedi retired from the post
- On June 30, General Upendra Dwivedi retired from the post of Army Chief.
- Before retirement, he paid tribute to the martyred soldiers at the National War Memorial in New Delhi.
- Dheeraj Seth has been made the 31st Army Chief of India in place of General Upendra Dwivedi and he took charge yesterday itself.
- General Upendra Dwivedi joined the army in December 1986.
- General Dwivedi participated in the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy on 15 December 1984.
- After this, General Dwivedi joined the commission in 18 Rifles.
- Commanded a battalion during Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s. Led the Assam Rifles Sector during Operation Rhino in Manipur.
- General Dwivedi became the 46th Vice Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army in February 2024.
- June 2024 Assumed charge as the 30th Chief of Army Staff of India.
- General Dwivedi will now be replaced by General Dheeraj Seth and he took charge on Tuesday itself.
- Seth will be the 31st Army Chief of India and he joined the army in December 1986.
- Their tenure is 3 years or till the retirement age of 62 years whichever is earlier.

2. President Draupadi Murmu gives special military honors to armed forces officers
- On June 29, President Draupadi Murmu presented distinguished military honors to the armed forces at the Defense Investiture Ceremony 2026 (Phase-2) in New Delhi.
- Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM).
- Army Chief-designate Lieutenant General Dheeraj Seth received the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal (UYSM).
- Major General Mandeep Singh was awarded the Sena Medal.
- Major General Mandeep Singh, General Officer Commanding, White Tiger Armored Division, was awarded the Sena Medal.
- Earlier on June 8, President Draupadi Murmu had given a total of 51 gallantry awards to the soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces, Central Armed Police Forces and Police of States and Union Territories in the first phase of the Defense Investiture Ceremony 2026.

President Draupadi Murmu awarded the ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ to Lieutenant General Ranjit Singh of the Regiment of Artillery for his outstanding service.

3. Rajiv Kumar appointed as the new chairman of HDFC Bank
- On June 30, HDFC Bank appointed Rajiv Kumar as its part-time chairman.
- Rajiv Kumar will replace former chairman Atanu Chakraborty.
- Rajiv has been the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of the country.
- Rajiv became the Finance Secretary of the Government of India in September 2020.
- Rajeev has worked on many important positions related to banking, insurance, pension and financial sectors.
- Rajiv has also been a member of boards and committees of various institutions including RBI, SBI, NABARD.
- Rajiv is known for his successful conduct of free and fair elections as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner of India.
HDFC Bank
- HDFC Bank is the largest private sector bank in India.
- Established as HDFC Bank Limited in August 1994.
- The bank started functioning as a scheduled commercial bank in January 1995.
- HDFC Bank is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Rajiv was selected in IAS Jharkhand/Bihar cadre in 1984.
5. Rajasthan and Haryana governments signed Yamuna water agreement
- On June 29, Rajasthan CM signed Yamuna water agreement with Haryana. Home Minister Amit Shah was also present on this occasion.
- This agreement is an important step towards implementing the Upper Yamuna River Board water-sharing agreement of 1994.
- After this agreement, Haryana will supply 580 million cubic meters of water to Rajasthan every year.
- Under the agreement, Yamuna water will be available to Shekhawati region and other districts of Rajasthan.
- After this MoU, the problem of irrigation and drinking water in the border districts of Rajasthan will be solved.
- This will provide drinking water to the water-stressed districts of Shekhawati region of Rajasthan like Sikar, Jhunjhunu and Churu.
- Water will be supplied through three underground pipelines between July and October.
- The estimated cost of this project is ₹34,102 crore.
- This agreement is being considered a historic achievement in the direction of implementing the 1994 water-sharing agreement that was pending for almost 32 years.

After this MoU, Bhiwani and Fatehabad districts of Haryana will also benefit.
6. Bima Sugam portal to launch in September 2026
- On June 30, the Chairman of IRDAI i.e. Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India announced the launch of ‘Bima Sugam’ portal in September 2026.
- This portal will be a ‘one-stop shop’ for insurance policy purchasing, servicing and claim settlement.
- It is designed to be a single platform to buy, compare, manage, renew and claim insurance policies.
- It is also called UPI of the insurance sector.
- Through this, transparency and accessibility in the insurance sector will increase. A consultation paper on insurance delivery reforms will be released in July, ahead of its launch.
- This digital platform will allow customers to compare policies from different companies.
- The aim of this portal is to increase the penetration of insurance in India and reduce frauds.
- India has set a target of ‘Insurance for all’ by 2047, in which this portal will prove helpful.
7. WhatsApp launches username feature
- On May 29, Meta-owned WhatsApp announced the launch of the username feature.
- After this feature, users will be able to chat only through username without revealing their mobile number.
- Till now, to talk to a new person on WhatsApp, it was necessary to give your mobile number. But this will not happen now.
- The company has also started booking usernames worldwide from Monday itself. However, this facility will not be available to all users simultaneously.
- It will be gradually rolled out in all countries in the coming few months.
- When this feature is available in the user’s area, he will get a notification in his WhatsApp.
- Millions of users around the world can choose the same or similar username.
- In such a situation, those who reserve their username first will have more chances of getting the username of their choice.
