1. PM chairs 52nd PRAGATI meeting
- On June 24, PM Modi presided over the 52nd edition of PRAGATI through digital medium.
- PRAGATI stands for ‘Pro-active Governance and Timely Implementation’.
- PRAGATI meeting is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month. It was started in 2015.
- Through PRAGATI, the Prime Minister directly monitors major projects, government schemes and public grievances.
- Projects costing about Rs 30,000 crore were reviewed in this meeting.
- These projects were related to road, power, industrial corridor and metro rail sectors.
- The progress of TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was taken stock of in the meeting.
- The Prime Minister directed to create a strong response mechanism against cyber fraud.
- The Prime Minister stressed on swift action, better coordination and implementation of e-Zero FIR system.
In this meeting the Prime Minister reviews the projects of the state governments monthly.
International
2. Emergency declared due to earthquake in Venezuela
- On June 24, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurred within 39 seconds in the South American country Venezuela.
- The epicenters of the earthquake were in Yaracuy and Carabobo, west of the capital Caracas.
- The most affected areas include the states of Caracas, La Guaira, Miranda, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcon.
- This is the biggest earthquake in Venezuela in the last 126 years. Earlier in 1900, an earthquake of 7.7 magnitude had occurred.
- So far 32 deaths have occurred due to the earthquake, while more than 700 people have been injured.
- Acting President Delsey Rodriguez declared a national emergency.
- Metro and train services were also closed in Caracas and neighboring Miranda state.
- The main airport was damaged and had to be temporarily closed.

3. 14th Passport Seva Day celebrated in the country
- The 14th Passport Seva Day was celebrated in the country on 24th June.
- This day is celebrated every year due to the implementation of the Passport Act, 1967 on 24 June 1967.
- This year’s theme was Passport to Trust, Technology, and Transformation.
- On this occasion, the government reiterated its commitment to implement e-passport technology soon.
- The Ministry of External Affairs stressed on making services more transparent and accessible to citizens under the vision ‘Secure Passport, Smooth Service, Empowered Citizens’.
- The Ministry of External Affairs also expanded services through ‘Passport Seva Mobile App’.
5. 16th BRICS National Security Advisors meeting concludes
- The 16th BRICS National Security Advisors (NSA) meeting concluded on 23 June.
- The meeting was chaired by India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
- Security chiefs from other BRICS member states, including China’s Wang Yi and Russia’s Sergei Shoigu, attended the meeting.
- The 16th BRICS NSA meeting was held under the chairmanship of Russia, in which India actively participated.
- The meeting was held on 22 and 23 June 2026 in New Delhi.
- The theme of the meeting was ‘Non-Traditional Security Challenges Facing Today’s World’.
- India stressed the need for united action against cross-border terrorism and cyber crimes.
- Member countries discussed creating a common framework for the safe use of AI and data protection.
- India advocated strict international laws to stop terror financing of terrorism.
- It was proposed to create a mechanism for exchange of information among BRICS countries to deal with cyber threats.

6. FIFA suspends Nepal Football Association (ANFA)
- On 23 June, FIFA suspended the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) with immediate effect.
- Due to this suspension, Nepal’s national teams will not be able to participate in any international competition.
- This suspension has been imposed due to external interference in the governance of ANFA.
- According to FIFA rules, national football associations must be free from any political or outside interference.
- This suspension will continue until ANFA restores its autonomy and adherence to FIFA rules.
- FIFA’s financial assistance for football activities in Nepal has also been stopped.
Nepal football team will no longer be able to take advantage of any training or funding from FIFA or the Asian Football Confederation.
