1. President Draupadi Murmu gave 65 Padma awards
- On June 23, President Draupadi Murmu honored her with the Padma Award at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
- A total of 65 winners were awarded Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. This includes 2 Padma Vibhushan, 7 Padma Bhushan.
- These awards were given to 65 people including Indian cricketer and former team captain Rohit Sharma, tennis icon Vijay Amritraj, veteran actor Mammootty and singer Alka Yagnik.
- Actor Mammootty, tennis icon Vijay Amritraj and singer Alka Yagnik have been awarded the Padma Bhushan.
- American doctor Dattatreyudu Nori was awarded Padma Bhushan in the field of medicine.
- Russia’s Lyudmila Khokhlova was awarded Padma Shri in the field of literature and education.
- Shibu Soren, the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan. His wife Rupi Soren arrived to receive the award.
- Vice President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and many other dignitaries attended the event.
- The Padma Award is one of India’s highest civilian honours.
- It is the country’s second highest civilian honor after Padma Vibhushan and Bharat Ratna.
- Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian honor of the country and Padma Shri is the fourth honour.
- These awards were announced on the eve of Republic Day on January 26 and this is its second phase.
- These awards are given for distinguished work in fields like art, social service, science, industry, medicine and literature.

Former captain Rohit Sharma was awarded Padma Shri.
2. Kunal Shah becomes the new global head of Meta
- On June 22, Meta appointed Kunal Shah as the new global head of WhatsApp.
- Meta is a parent company of Facebook and Instagram.
- Kunal is the founder of CRED app and will replace Will Cathcart.
- Cathcart will now work on new projects related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Meta.
- Kunal founded the startup PaisaBack in 2009, which worked on consumer loyalty and cashback models.
- In 2015, Kunal acquired FreeCharge and Snapdeal for approximately Rs 2,800 crore ($400 million).
- Kunal invested in more than 200 startups in the country in 2016- 2017, including Razorpay, Unacademy and BharatPe.
- In June 2026, Meta Platforms invested $900 million in CRED.
- Meta also recently introduced new subscription plans for Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp.
- Under this, ‘Plus’ versions of apps have been rolled out. Users taking this plan will get special tools and customization options.

Kunal co-founded FreeCharge in 2010 and built it into one of India’s leading digital recharge platforms.

3. Lionel Messi became the player with the highest goalscorer
- On June 22, Argentina captain Lionel Messi became the highest goalscorer in the Football World Cup.
- By scoring his 17th goal against Austria, Messi broke the record of Germany’s Miroslav Klose (16 goals).
- By scoring another goal at the end of the match against Austria, Messi scored the highest number of 18 goals in the Football World Cup.
- Messi created history by scoring a field goal in the 39th minute at the Dallas Stadium.
- After this, he scored the second goal in injury time (95th minute) to ensure Argentina’s 2-0 victory.
- 38-year-old Messi had scored a hat-trick against Algeria in the last match.
- He has scored maximum 5 goals in the tournament. After Messi is Germany’s Deniz Undav with 3 goals.
- Messi has scored 11 international hat-tricks so far.
- Messi has won football’s most prestigious award, the Ballon d’Or, 8 times.
- Messi received Spain’s prestigious award ‘Princess of Asturias Award’ in 2026. He is the first footballer to receive this award.
- Messi has been FIFA Player of the Year 8 times.

4. Puneet Balan appointed chairman of AKFI
- On June 23, Puneet Balan was appointed Chairman of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India (AKFI).
- AKFI is the supreme regulatory body for Kabaddi in India.
- AKFI works to find and train Kabaddi talent across the country.
- Puneet has played an important role in promoting sports in Maharashtra, especially Kabaddi, wrestling and football.

Puneet’s tenure will be from 2026 to 2030.

5. NSA Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi
- On June 22, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
- In this conversation, important aspects of mutual relations including the progress made towards normalizing relations between the two countries were discussed.
- This conversation took place yesterday during the ongoing 16th BRICS National Security Advisors meeting in New Delhi.
- The two leaders also discussed the improvement in India-China relations in recent months.
- Talked about maintaining peace and stability in the border areas and taking forward bilateral dialogue.
- Both sides also discussed enhancing cooperation in BRICS, SCO and other multilateral fora.
- This meeting is considered important between the two countries due to the clash in Galwan Valley in 2020 and the subsequent military confrontation that lasted for more than four years.

In August last year too, Doval and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang had held talks in New Delhi.
6. Central government removed conversion from the list of religious conversion in FCRA
- On June 23, the Central Government has amended the rules of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA).
- Under this, religious conversion has now been excluded from the ‘faith-based category’.
- Now religious institutions or NGOs will not be able to use foreign money for conversion.
- The government aims to prevent misuse of foreign funds and closely monitor foreign funding for religious conversion.
- Conversion will not be considered a religious activity, especially if it is done through foreign money.
- Following this rule, strict action can be taken against conversion through force, inducement or undue influence.
- The government says the amendment aims to increase transparency and prevent misuse of foreign funds.
- 1976 FCRA was implemented for the first time, its objective was to control foreign influence.
- In 2010, the new FCRA, 2010 was implemented by repealing the old law. Rules for registration, renewal and monitoring were added to it.
- This rule was amended once again in 2020, further tightening monitoring and control over foreign funding.
- In this, the maximum limit of administrative expenditure was reduced from 50% to 20%.
