1. Home Minister Amit Shah will launch Digital Land Port Management System today

  • On June 9, Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Digital Land Port Management System (LPMS).
  • LPMS is a digital platform that will ease slot booking, payment and tracking for movement of goods at ports.
  • Through LPMS, the functioning of all land ports will be linked into a single system. With this smart system, movement at the port will be documentless.
  • This initiative is to make India’s border infrastructure modern and digital like airports and seaports.
  • The main objective of LPMS launch is to make the country’s board security more strong and hi-tech.
  • LPMS system will ease business and the time taken for security checks will be reduced to almost half.
  • LPMS is part of smart border management. With this system, information related to logistics at the port will be available immediately during business.
  • This system will easily enable end-to-end digital work for cargo and passengers including payment, tracking and single window clearance.

  • British actor Anthony Head passed away on June 7. He was 72 years old.

  • Anthony played Rupert Giles in all seven seasons of ‘Buffy’ alongside Sarah Michelle Gellar.

5. India-Nepal signed MoU for cross border digital payments

  • On June 7, India and Nepal signed an MoU to fully implement cross border digital payments.
  • This MoU took place during the visit of Nepal Foreign Minister Shishir Khanal to India.
  • Under this MoU, it has been agreed to connect India’s UPI (Unified Payment Interface) and Nepal’s National Payment Interface (NPI).
  • After this MoU, Nepalese citizens will be able to make digital payments in India and Indian citizens in Nepal through mobile.
  • This facility will make personal remittance i.e. person to person and other cross border payments easier.
  • Earlier, if an Indian citizen did any transaction in Nepal, he was charged between 1.3 and 2%.
  • Whereas, this service is free for any Nepalese citizen in India from January 2020 for both UPI users and merchants.
  • Any extra charges after this MoU will be borne by International Payments Limited (India) and Nepal Clearing House Limited (Nepal).
  • Indian tourists were making UPI-based QR payments in Nepal since March 2024. Now after this MoU, payment will be easy in both the modes.
  • India had signed an MoU for digital payments and remittances in 2023, which will now be implemented at the operational level.
  • Along with this, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also signed an agreement with Nepal on 72 health sector and 12 cultural sector projects as part of post-earthquake reconstruction projects in Nepal.
  • India was the major donor for reconstruction in Nepal after the 2015 earthquake. India had promised $1 billion in grants and loans.

6. AB-PMJAY scheme will start in West Bengal

  • On June 8, the West Bengal government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Health Authority (NHA) for the Ayushman Bharat- Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
  • Union Health Minister J.P. in New Delhi. This MoU was signed in the presence of Nadda and West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari.
  • The West Bengal government will now implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state and West Bengal will be the 36th state in the country to implement PMJAY.
  • This will provide financial security to the people of West Bengal from health expenses. Under this scheme, beneficiaries can get their treatment in any hospital listed across the country.
  • Under this scheme, heads of eligible families get cashless health cover up to Rs 5 lakh every year.
  • In this scheme, the state and central governments together bear its expenses. In normal states, the central government bears 60% of the expenditure and the state government bears 40% of the expenditure.
  • At the same time, in the North-Eastern and Himalayan states, the central government bears 90% of the expenditure and the state government bears 10% of the expenditure.
  • Ayushman Bharat Yojana was launched on 23 September 2018 from Ranchi, Jharkhand.
