Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan held a press conference in Delhi on Friday.
NEET-UG exam will be online from next session. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced this on Friday. He admitted that the papers of NEET-UG-2026 examination held on May 3 were leaked.
He said, ‘We did not want any wrong candidate to be selected. Therefore, we took the decision to cancel the exam with great responsibility. Now this exam will be held on Sunday 21st June. The glitch was discovered on May 7. NTA told the government. Then the decision for re-exam was taken on May 12.
The Education Minister said, ‘Students will get 15 minutes extra time in the re-exam. Students will be able to choose the center of their choice in the re-exam. Earlier on May 3, this exam was held in 551 cities of the country and 14 abroad. For this, more than 5400 exam centers were created.

Dharmendra Pradhan said, will talk to the states for the movement of students
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, ‘How did this violation happen despite following the recommendations of the Radhakrishna Committee. In such a situation, the government machinery will ensure that there is no irregularity this time. As ministers, as parents, as officials, we had to take the difficult decision to cancel the exams.
He said that we have received many suggestions for reforms. We are working on it. NTA was formed as per the orders of the Supreme Court. Apart from this I will talk to the state governments to ensure transportation of the candidates.

7 arrests so far in NEET paper leak case
CBI has arrested 7 people so far in this case. Of these, 5 i.e. Mangi Lal Binwal, who was caught from Rajasthan, brother Dinesh Binwal from Jamwaramgarh, son Vikas Binwal, Yash Yadav from Gurugram, Haryana and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik were produced in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.
The court has sent the five accused to 7-day custody. Apart from these, CBI had arrested beautician Manisha Waghmare from Pune and Dhananjay Lokhande from Nashik. Delhi Court on Friday sent Lokhande to CBI custody for 6 days.

What happened in the last 3 days 12 May:
- National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled NEET-UG 2026 exam.
- The investigation was handed over to CBI. CBI registered FIR.
- NTA has decided that the exam will be conducted again.
13 May:
- CBI conducted raids and inquiries in many states including Rajasthan and Bihar.
- Investigation revealed that the paper was allegedly delivered to Sikar in Rajasthan.
- The investigating agency interrogated the coaching center operators, staff and students. Arrested 5 people.
- Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) filed a petition in the Supreme Court. In this, a demand has been made to conduct the examination again under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Said- No trust on NTA.
14 May:
- CBI produced Mangi Lal Binwal, brother Dinesh Binwal from Jamwaramgarh, son Vikas Binwal, Yash Yadav from Gurugram, Haryana and Shubham Khairnar from Nashik in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.

Yash had delivered the paper to Sikar
CBI has learned that the leaked paper had allegedly reached Rajasthan through accused Yash Yadav. According to sources, Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh were collected from the students for giving them access to the paper.
According to sources, Yash Yadav was identified with another accused Vikas Binwal. Investigation has revealed that Vikas’s father Dinesh had allegedly scanned the hard copy of the NEET-UG question paper and converted it into a PDF file.
Sources said the accused allegedly hand-wrote the question paper and then scanned it and circulated it among students studying in coaching centers in Rajasthan’s Sikar district.
The coaching center teacher and PG operator who reached the police station in Sikar on the night of 3 May had the viral guess paper (question bank). In this, out of 180 questions of the original paper, 150 questions were exactly the same.

‘Guess papers’ were written by hand. Their handwriting is also the same.
NTA is the examination agency of the government
NTA is an autonomous examination agency working under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It was established in 2017. NTA conducts many major entrance exams of the country like NEET-UG, JEE Main, CUET, UGC-NET, CMAT and GPAT. JEE Main exam was conducted for the first time in January 2019.
- Admission in more than 1 lakh medical seats through NEET: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is the national entrance examination for admission to medical and dental courses in India. It was started in 2013. Through this examination, one can get admission in courses like MBBS, BDS, AYUSH (BAMS, BHMS) and Nursing in all the government and private medical colleges of the country, which also includes prestigious institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER. At present there are more than 1 lakh MBBS and more than 27000 BDS seats in the country.
- The paper was leaked in 2024 also, reached the Supreme Court: Even in 2024, NEET UG exam was canceled at some centers due to paper leak. The exam was held on 5 May 2024. On May 6, NTA had denied the paper leak. After this investigation was conducted in Bihar (Patna) and Jharkhand (Hazaribagh). The investigation found evidence of paper leak and several arrests were made. However, the Supreme Court refused to cancel the entire examination and re-examination of 1539 candidates was conducted at some centres. Apart from the allegations of paper leak, 67 students getting 720/720 marks and multiple toppers coming from the same center had also caused major controversy.
