1. PM Modi will visit 4 countries
On May 15, PM Narendra Modi will visit four European countries. He will visit Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15 to 20.
- In the first phase of his visit, Modi will reach UAE and meet President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
- In the UAE the two leaders will hold talks on bilateral issues, particularly energy cooperation, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
- Then PM Modi will reach the Netherlands and meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima. Modi will also talk to Netherlands PM Rob Jetten.
- In this meeting, both the leaders will talk about issues like security, innovation, green energy, talks and partnerships.
- In the third leg of the visit on May 17, PM Modi will visit Gothenburg, Sweden and hold bilateral talks with his Swedish counterpart Ulf Christerson.
- The two leaders will address United for Industry, a world-class European business forum, along with UN President Ursula von der Leyen.
- On the fourth leg of his visit, the PM will reach Norway on Monday for the third India-Nordic summit and bilateral programmes.
- The PM will meet King Harald V and Queen Sonja and will also hold bilateral talks with PM Jonas Gahr Storey.
- The visit takes place against the backdrop of strong momentum in bilateral relations, with both sides actively implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-2029.
- Innovation, economic development, climate solutions will be discussed in this summit.

2. Himanta Biswa Sarma becomes CM of Assam for the second time
On 12 May, Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam for the second consecutive time. Governor Laxman Acharya administered him the oath of office and secrecy at the swearing-in ceremony at Khanapara Veterinary College Ground in Guwahati.
- Apart from Himanta, 4 MLAs BJP’s Rameshwar Teli, Ajanta Neom, AGP’s Atul Bora, BPF’s Charan Boro have taken oath as ministers.
- Of these, two ministers are from BJP and 2 from allies. Before this, Himanta had joined BJP in 2015, earlier he was in Congress.
- NDA has formed the government in Assam for the third time. The NDA first came to power in 2016 under the leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal. Who is now a minister in the central government.
- The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several Union ministers, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, industrialists, Satradikhas (heads of Vaishnav monasteries) and BJP workers and booth committee presidents.
- Those who attended the swearing-in included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president Nitin Naveen, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Sarbananda Sonowal, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Lalan Singh, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Chirag Paswan.
3. Additional Secretary Prashant Pise became the new Ambassador of India to Oman.
On May 11, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Prashant Piesse was appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Oman.
- Prashant is a 1995 batch Indian Foreign Service officer. He will succeed Godavarthy Venkat Srinivas of the 1993 batch Indian Foreign Service in Muscat.
- Prashant was India’s Ambassador to Cairo from 1997 to 2000 and served in Tripoli until 2004.
- Prashant also served as Deputy Secretary for Eurasia and the United Nations Economic and Social Division in the Ministry of External Affairs from 2004 to 2006.
- Pacific worked with Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Central Asia, and United Nations affairs related to economic and social issues.
- Prashant currently holds the post of Additional Secretary (Immigration Policy and Welfare) in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- Prashant led the Indian delegation at the 8th Ministerial Consultations of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue held in Dubai in February 2026.

4. Indian team came first in ICC Annual ODI Rankings
ICC released new rankings on 11 May. The Indian team is at number one in this ranking. Team India has 118 rating points. New Zealand is at second place with 113 points and Australia is at third place with 109 points.
- South Africa left Pakistan behind and made it to the top-4.
- Proteas team has 102 points, while Pakistan has reached fifth position with 98 points.
- According to ICC, 100% weightage has been given to matches played from May 2025 and 50% weightage to matches played in the two years before that.
- India won the Champions Trophy in March 2025 and the team defeated New Zealand in the final.
- The ICC annual ODI rankings are released every year on or around May 1.
- This ranking evaluates the performance of international teams over partial data of the last 2-3 years.
- In this ranking, new performances are given more importance by removing old matches.
- The ICC rankings reflect the current form and ability of teams, which also leads to direct qualification for tournaments such as the World Cup.
ICC also shared the Champions Trophy celebration picture along with the ranking update.

5. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita holds meeting in Costa Rica
On May 11, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita met with Paula Bogantes Zamora, Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications in Costa Rica.
- In a social media post, Margherita said the meeting discussed exploring ideas that can deepen relations between India and Costa Rica.
- In this conversation, there was talk about supporting Indian business in Costa Rica, increasing capacity and starting quick impact projects.
- India and Costa Rica are continuously expanding cooperation in business, technology and digital innovation.
- In the recent discussion, sectors like Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Innovation Operation were discussed.
- Pabitra represented India at the swearing-in ceremony of President Laura Fernandez Delgado.
Minister Margherita is on a visit to Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize and Dominica from 8 to 15 May.
