1. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates North Tech Symposium
North Tech Symposium 2026 started in Prayagraj on 4th May.
- Defense Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the North Tech Symposium 2026.
- The symposium is a defense exhibition jointly organized by the Indian Army (especially the Northern and Central Command) and the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers (SIDM).
- Its main objective is to showcase indigenous technological innovations to address the operational challenges of the armed forces.
- A total of 284 companies are participating in it, which will include Army, Industry (MSME and Startups) and academicians and researchers.
- This exhibition aims to strengthen the firepower of the Indian Army and promote indigenous technologies in the defense sector under Self-reliant India.
The theme of the symposium is ‘Raksha Triveni Sangam’.
2. India launches the largest private satellite ‘Drishti’
On May 4, Indian startup GalaxEye launched its largest satellite ‘Drishti’ from American company SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.
- Drishti is India’s largest private satellite with a weight of 190 kg.
- Drishti satellite can take photos from both optical and radar (SAR) simultaneously.
- SAR i.e. Synthetic Aperture Radar technology can take pictures even in clouds, rain or at night.
- Galaxy has named this technology Opto-SAR.
- The remaining satellites either took multi-spectral/hyper-spectral (optical) images or used SAR technology.
- Drishti satellite will help in tasks like defence, farming, disaster management, marine monitoring and infrastructure planning.
- Vision can convert SAR data from AI into optical-like images when optical images cannot be obtained in bad weather. This will allow imaging to be done in all weather conditions and at all times.
- There is more problem of clouds in India, so it can take pictures in every season.
- This satellite will support ISRO’s 29 Earth Observation Satellites.
- India has the largest constellation of remote sensing satellites with 29 Earth Observation Satellites.
GalaxyEye was created in 2021 by IIT Madras alumni.
DEATH 3. Former Manipur minister A S Arthur passes away
On May 4, former Manipur minister A S Arthur passed away. He was 99 years old.
- Arthur served as the Minister of Forests and General Administration from 1994 to 1997 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing.
- Before becoming active in politics, Arthur worked as Special Secretary in the Nagaland Assembly. Arthur belonged to the Tangkul Naga community of Manipur.
- Arthur won the Ukhrul (Manipur) assembly constituency as an independent candidate in 1984, later joining the Congress.
- Remained a political figure until the 1990s. He is survived by his son Alfred Kannagam Arthur, who is the current MP from Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
A S Arthur won from Manipur Assembly twice.
4. Assam’s first radio journalist Lily Das passes away
On May 3, Assam’s first radio journalist Lily Das passed away. she was 90 years old
- Lily was the first Assamese woman news reader of All India Radio (AIR).
- Lily started her career in 1955. He was a big name in Assamese electronic media.
- Lily was well-liked among the listeners for her clear pronunciation, impressive presentation and contribution to public broadcasting.
- Despite her popularity on radio, Malik largely stayed away from television appearances.
Lily Das’s distinctive voice was considered the ‘Golden Era’ in Assamese radio broadcasting.

5. India-Cambodia military exercises started
Indian Army contingent has left for Cambodia for the second edition of India-Cambodia bilateral military exercise CINBAX-II on 4 May.
- This exercise has started from 4th to 17th of this month at Techo Sen Phnom Thom Miras Prove Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Center (Camp Basil).
- The aim of the joint training between India and Cambodia is to increase coordination and operational exercises.
- This joint exercise between India and Cambodia will be training for counter terrorism and operational encounters.
- The Indian Army contingent comprises 120 personnel, while the Cambodian contingent comprises 160 personnel.
- According to the Defense Ministry, this exercise will enhance the capability of both the countries towards maintaining global peace.
There will also be skills and modern military practice in the training between India and Cambodia.
6. Prannoy Kumar met Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman
On May 4, India’s outgoing High Commissioner to Bangladesh Prannoy Kumar Verma met Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman in Dhaka.
- The two leaders spoke on bilateral relations and reviewed the ongoing developments in India-Bangladesh relations.
- The two heads of state discussed strengthening people-centric cooperation and expanding cooperation in various fields based on mutual interest and benefit.
- This meeting is taking place at a time when India and Bangladesh are working on mutual relations after the recent political changes in Dhaka.
- Pranay Kumar is currently the Ambassador of India to Belgium and the European Union. Before this, he was India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh and has also been Ambassador to Vietnam.
