The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has taken a revolutionary step by changing the traditional definition of education. The Board has launched its new ‘Parenting Calendar’ for the session 2026-27, which aims to transform parents from mere formal spectators of PTMs (Parent-Teacher Meetings) to ‘active participants’ in the child’s development. For the first time in the calendar, those issues which till now were considered ‘home issues’ have been made a part of the school system. Parents will be given training to recognize changes in children’s behavior and anxiety. Chapter has been added for awareness against drug abuse with NCB. Guidance will be given on the risks of social media, gaming addiction and screen time management.

Different recipe for every age from nursery to 12th

‘CBSE has divided this calendar into different categories according to the age of the children.

Bal Vatika (class smaller than nursery) – The focus here will be on the child’s habits, emotional development and screen time.

Middle Class – Inclination towards friendship and digital behavior will be discussed.

Senior Class – For students from 9th to 12th, priority has been given to career worries, board exam stress and life skills.

Systematic communication with parents – There will be systematic communication in schools, not just PTM. In regular workshops, parents will learn to understand the behavior and mental state of their children. Support groups will be formed to share experiences. Emphasis will be laid on increasing ‘offline connection’ between parents and children through projects and events like open house.

focus on problem solving – A senior official of the board said that screen addiction and career pressure are making children lonely. In such a situation, coordination between school, teacher and parents is necessary. An attempt is made to send a message through the calendar that if necessary, a parent-teacher meeting should be called immediately, so that the problem can be resolved before it becomes serious.

Principle of ‘4R’ – The new calendar has been built on the principle of ‘4R’, which will give new depth to the relationship between parents and children.

Reflection – To consider methods of parenting.

Reinforcement – Promote positive behavior.

Relationship – To strengthen the relationship of trust between parents and child.
