On April 26, Dr. M Srinivas, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, became a member of NITI Aayog. Dr. Srinivas will replace Dr. VK Paul.

2. Dinesh Trivedi appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh

3. Athlete Sébastien Savay made a record of completing the marathon in 2 hours

On April 26, Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe set a new world record by finishing the London Marathon 2026 before two hours.

4. Punjabi writer Dalip Singh Wasan passes away

Punjabi writer Dalip Singh Wasan passed away on 26 April. He was 88 years old.

  • Dalip was the Legal Advisor and Assistant Employment Officer of Punjabi Sahitya Sabha in Patiala.
  • Dalip Singh worked for the development of Punjabi language and literature through his writings.
  • Dalip’s famous social novels include ‘Sodhiyan Da Farm’ (1978) and ‘Hartaal’ (1982).
  • The books ‘Punjabiyan Da Rahne Sehan’, ‘Aatm‑Vishwas’ and ‘Aapni Kismat Aap Uliko’ written by Dalip are also quite famous.

5. Olympian Gurbaksh Singh passes away

Olympian hockey player Gurbaksh Singh Grewal passed away on April 24. He was 84 years old.

  • Gurbaksh Singh was part of the team that won the bronze medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
  • Gurbaksh led this hockey team along with his brother Balbir Singh Grewal.
  • Gurbaksh served as Senior Sports Officer in Western Railways.

6. Approval to create 5 districts of Ladakh

On April 27, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory Ladakh, Vinay Kumar Saxena issued a notification approving the creation of five new districts in Ladakh.
