1. Dr. M Srinivas appointed member of NITI Aayog
On April 26, Dr. M Srinivas, Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, became a member of NITI Aayog. Dr. Srinivas will replace Dr. VK Paul.
- Dr. M Srinivas will work on reforms related to health development under the National Policy.
- Dr. Srinivas is currently the Director of AIIMS Delhi and he became the Director of AIIMS on 22 September 2022.
- Dr. Srinivas became a faculty member at AIIMS Delhi in 1994.
- Dr. Srinivas became Professor of Pediatric Surgery at AIIMS Delhi in 2011.
- From 2016 to 2022, Dr. Srinivas was the Dean of Employees’ State Insurance Company (ESIC) Hospital and Medical College, Hyderabad.
- Along with Dr. Srinivas, Prof. Gobardhan Das, Prof. Abhay Karandikar, KV Raju and Rajiv Gauba have also been made members of NITI Aayog.
- Earlier on April 25, senior economist Dr. Ashok Lahiri has been made the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
Dr. Srinivas became a faculty member at AIIMS Delhi in 1994.
2. Dinesh Trivedi appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh
26 In April, former Union Minister Dinesh Trivedi was appointed High Commissioner of Bangladesh. The Ministry of External Affairs shared this information.
- Dinesh Trivedi will replace the current High Commissioner Pranay Verma.
- Prannoy Verma has been made the next High Commissioner of India to Belgium and the European Union.
- Dinesh was a Janata Dal Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat from 1990 to 1996.
- Dinesh was one of the founding members of Trinamool Congress (TMC) in 1998.
- From 2009 to 2019, Dinesh was elected to the Lok Sabha from Barrackpore constituency. He also represented West Bengal in the Rajya Sabha.
- Dinesh was the Railway Minister in the government of former PM Manmohan Singh in 2011-2012. He has also been the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare in the UPA government.
- Resigned from the post of Railway Minister after increasing the rail fare in the Railway Budget in 2012.
- 2016-17 Trivedi was awarded the Outstanding Parliamentarian Award for.
- Trivedi joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2021 after resigning from TMC.
Dinesh Trivedi has also been the Chairman of the India-EU Parliamentary Forum.

3. Athlete Sébastien Savay made a record of completing the marathon in 2 hours
On April 26, Kenyan runner Sebastian Sawe set a new world record by finishing the London Marathon 2026 before two hours.
- Savay has become the first athlete in the world to complete a competitive marathon in under two hours.
- Save completed this competitive marathon in a record time of 1 hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds.
- Saave completed approximately 42.195 kilometers of track in this time. He broke Kelvin Kiptum’s previous world record of 2:00:35 at the 2023 Chicago Marathon.
- Savay started his sports career with cross-country, half marathon and road racing.
- Set a Kenyan national record in the one-hour race in Brussels in 2022. Took part in the World Cross Country Championships in 2023.
- Savay came second in the London Marathon in 2025 by completing the race in 2:02:27 time. This was the second best of London Marathon 2025.
- Apart from Save, Ethiopia’s Tigaste Assefa has also made a women’s world record in the London Marathon 2026.
Sébastien Sauve won his debut marathon, the Valencia Marathon, in 2024.

4. Punjabi writer Dalip Singh Wasan passes away
Punjabi writer Dalip Singh Wasan passed away on 26 April. He was 88 years old.
- Dalip was the Legal Advisor and Assistant Employment Officer of Punjabi Sahitya Sabha in Patiala.
- Dalip Singh worked for the development of Punjabi language and literature through his writings.
- Dalip’s famous social novels include ‘Sodhiyan Da Farm’ (1978) and ‘Hartaal’ (1982).
- The books ‘Punjabiyan Da Rahne Sehan’, ‘Aatm‑Vishwas’ and ‘Aapni Kismat Aap Uliko’ written by Dalip are also quite famous.
Apart from being a writer, Dalip Singh was also a lawyer.
5. Olympian Gurbaksh Singh passes away
Olympian hockey player Gurbaksh Singh Grewal passed away on April 24. He was 84 years old.
- Gurbaksh Singh was part of the team that won the bronze medal in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics.
- Gurbaksh led this hockey team along with his brother Balbir Singh Grewal.
- Gurbaksh served as Senior Sports Officer in Western Railways.
- Gurbaksh was the Honorary Secretary of Mumbai Hockey Association.
- During this period, he worked at the grassroots level to popularize hockey in Mumbai.

6. Approval to create 5 districts of Ladakh
On April 27, Lieutenant Governor of Union Territory Ladakh, Vinay Kumar Saxena issued a notification approving the creation of five new districts in Ladakh.
- There was a demand for new districts in Ladakh for a long time. After the formation of 5 new districts, there will be a total of 7 districts in Ladakh.
- These five new districts will be Sham, Nubra, Changthang, Zanskar and Dras. There was a demand to separate Nubra from Kargil for a long time.
- The problem of the common people of Ladakh is that due to its geographical size, people have to face a lot of difficulties in going to Leh or Kargil for government work.
- With the formation of 5 new districts, it will be easier for people to complete their work and movement will be easier.
- After the formation of new districts, development work will be carried out in the districts and access to public services will become easier for the people living in remote and inaccessible areas of Ladakh.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India had approved the formation of five new districts in August 2024.
- This demand was being raised after the separation from Jammu and Kashmir in 2019. In 2019, Ladakh was made a separate union territory (without assembly) under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act.
