1. There will be a bilateral trade deal between India and New Zealand
On April 27, New Zealand and India will sign a bilateral trade agreement (BTA). This deal will be signed today in the India-New Zealand Business Forum meeting at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
- This agreement was reached between India and New Zealand during the visit of New Zealand’s Business and Investment Minister Todd McClay to India.
- According to this deal, India will be able to sell 100% of its exports without any duty. At the same time, tariffs on 95% of New Zealand’s exports to India will be reduced or eliminated.
- India and New Zealand have set a target of doubling this bilateral trade to 5 billion dollars in the next five years.
- In this deal, New Zealand will also provide a quota of 5,000 visas to Indian professionals every year.
- The deal aims to bring investment of $20 billion and double the trade in the next 15 years.
- After this deal, trade relations between the two countries will be strengthened and this will boost trade.
- Bilateral merchandise trade between India and New Zealand was estimated to be around $1.3 billion in 2024-25.
- Total trade in goods and services was projected to reach approximately $2.4 billion in 2024.
- After this deal, startups, MSMEs and professionals will get opportunities.
- India-New Zealand exports include commodities ranging from wool, coal, timber, wine to avocados and blueberries.
- New Zealand will pay no duty on sheep meat, wool, coal and more than 95% of forestry and timber products.
- However, India has not included sensitive sectors like dairy and some agricultural products in it for the security of farmers.
- It was announced to start talks on 16 March 2025 during the visit of New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to India.
2. PM Modi will visit Sikkim today on a two-day visit
On April 27, PM Narendra Modi will go on a two-day visit to Sikkim. During this period, he will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs 4 thousand crores.
- On the second day of this visit, PM will visit the Orchidarium Center in Gangtok, known for different types of flowers and their species.
- The PM will also attend the closing ceremony of the 50th year celebrations of Sikkim at Paljor Stadium.
- During this visit, PM will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects worth more than Rs. 4 thousand crores.
- These projects are related to connectivity, health, education, electricity, urban development, environment, tourism.
- The PM will lay the foundation stone of a 100-bed Ayurveda hospital at Yangang in Namchi district and a 30-bed integrated Sowa Rigpa hospital at NIT Deorali.
- PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for two hinged double-lane steel arch bridges over the Teesta river at Sirwani and Lower Samdong, connecting Namchi and Gangtok districts.
PM Modi had inaugurated the state’s first airport at Pakyong in Sikkim in 2018.

3. Senior photographer Raghu Rai passes away
Senior photographer Raghu Rai passed away on 26 April. He was 83 years old. Raghu is called the father of Indian journalism. He had sent the horrific pictures of Bhopal gas tragedy to the whole world.
- Raghu Rai was born on December 18, 1942 in Jhang (now in Pakistan).
- He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1972 for his powerful photography during the Bangladesh War.
- Raghu worked under the guidance of famous French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson.
- Henry was impressed by her exhibition in Paris in 1972 and nominated her to join Magnum Photos. Raghu joined Magnum Photos in 1977.
- Magnum is one of the largest photography organizations in the world, and only top photographers can join this organization.
- From 1982 to 1992, he was the Director of Photography at India Today.
- Between 1990 and 1997, Raghu served three times on the jury of the World Press Photo and twice on the jury of the UNESCO International Photo Contest.
- In 1992, Raghu was given the ‘Photographer of the Year’ award in America.
- In 2017, Raghu was also given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
- In 2019 Raghu received the Académie des Beaux-Arts Photography Award, a major international honor in photography.
- Also took close and personal photographs of famous personalities like Mother Teresa and Indira Gandhi including the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
- Raghu also has some photography books, the most famous of which include Raghu Rai’s India: Reflections in Color and Reflections in Black and White.
Raghu Rai’s photography is also called the ‘visual record’ of modern India.
4.Ashok Lahiri becomes the new Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog
On April 25, the new Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog Ashok Lahiri met PM Modi. PM Modi is the chairman of NITI Aayog. On April 24, Ashok Lahiri has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.
- Ashok is a BJP MLA from West Bengal and has also served as a member of the 15th Finance Commission. He will replace Suman Berry.
- Ashok was the former Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) to the Government of India from 2002-2007.
- In 2001, Ashok was Assistant Director in the European Department of the Indian Monetary Fund (IMF).
- Ashok has also been a member of the 15th Finance Commission and President of Bandhan Bank.
- PM Narendra Modi is the chairman of NITI Aayog.
- NITI Aayog was established on 1 January 2015.
- NITI Aayog is the major policy think tank of the Government of India.
From 1987 to 2003, Ashok Lahiri worked with the World Bank.
5. Neetu Samra becomes CEO of Noida International Airport
On April 25, Neetu was appointed the interim Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Samra International Airport.
- Neetu became the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the airport from October 2021.
- As CFO, Neetu played a big role in the financial scheme and development of the Greenfield Airport Project.
- This appointment of Neetu happened after the change in aviation security standards.
- According to the new rule, only an Indian citizen can lead an Indian airport.
- The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) refused to sanction former CEO Christoph Schnellmann, leading to an immediate leadership shuffle.
- CEO Christoph Schnellmann has been included in the company’s board of directors and has been made executive director.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of this airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh on 28 March 2026.
Neetu graduated from Delhi University and also took the degree of Chartered Accountant.
