1. Nepal’s Home Minister Sudan Gurung resigned
On 22 April, Nepal’s Home Minister Sudan Gurung resigned from his post.
- Gurung is accused of having links with money laundering accused and businessman Deepak Bhatt.
- Along with this, questions were also being raised on Gurung regarding investments and financial transactions.
- According to Nepali newspaper reports, Gurung talked about leaving the post to avoid a fair investigation and personal conflict.
- Gurung became the Home Minister in the Rashtriya Swatantra Party government led by Balendra Shah on March 27.
- The very next day after becoming the Home Minister, he had ordered the arrest of former PM KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
- Gurung was one of the prominent faces of the Gen Z movement that took place in September 2025. However, his age is 36 years.
- Sudan Gurung soon became popular among the youth due to his aggressive speech in the Gen Z Protest.
- Gurung is the second minister to step down after the formation of the new government.
- Earlier on April 9, Labor, Employment and Social Security Minister Deepak Kumar was removed on charges of indiscipline.

2. Central government issued notification for online gaming
On April 22, the Central Government issued a notification for the formation of Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) to regulate online gaming in the country.
- The Online Gaming Act will come into force from 1 May 2026. This notification has been implemented under the Online Gaming Regulation Act-2025.
- According to the new rules, the validity of the certificate will now increase from 5 to 10 years.
- Registration will not be mandatory for games that do not involve monetary transactions.
- According to the new rule, games which are played on a large level or in which financial transactions take place will have to be registered as soon as notified.
- According to IT Secretary S. Krishnan, the government has adopted a light-touch regulatory approach for the gaming industry, so that startups and developers are not burdened unnecessarily.
According to the new notification, in which category have the games been placed?
- Suo moto: The authority itself can review a game and classify it.
- E-Sports Bodies: Institutions related to e-sports can apply themselves.
- Central government: The government can notify specific social games.
A time limit of 90 days has been set to complete the process of classification of any game.
- The government has mandated a two-tier grievance redressal system for the safety of gamers and to resolve their complaints.
- Apart from this, gaming platforms will have to maintain data retention and submit compliance reports from time to time.
- The Home Ministry will also now be a part of the IT Authority, so that action like blocking games that violate rules can be taken.
- The rules related to refund have also been removed in the new rules, because the government believes that this problem has already been covered.
Online Gaming Authority:
- The Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) will be a six-member team.
- Apart from the IT Ministry, representatives of the Home Ministry will also be included in the team.
- This team will monitor the games running in the country and will ensure the privacy and security of the users by deciding their classification.

3. Bikaji CMD Shivratan Agarwal passes away
On April 23, Bikaji Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Shivratan Agarwal passed away. He was 74 years old.
- Shivratan Agarwal established the Bikaji brand in Bikaner in the year 1987.
- Bikaji was started by Shivratan from a very small level, which is today established as a big food brand.
- Shivratan Agarwal, who had studied only till 8th standard, made Bikaji a brand with his creative vision.
- Before starting his business, Shiv Ratan traveled to many countries and understood the production strategies.
- Earlier Bhujia was made only by hands but Shivratan created a set-up to make Bhujia with machine.
- Bikaji became the first brand in India to make Bhujia by machine. This increased both the productivity and quality of Bikaji.
- After IPO in 2022, Bikaji was listed on the Indian Stock Exchange, which is today an international brand.
- Shivratan hails from a traditional Agarwal business family, deeply rooted in the sweets and namkeen trade of Bikaner.
- Bikaji has more than 250 products. Apart from India, they are found in 32 countries including America, UAE, Australia, Rude, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands.
- Shivratan’s son Deepak Aggarwal is the MD of the company.

4. Trump removed Navy Chief John Phelan from the post
On April 22, the US Defense Department dismissed US Navy Chief John Phelan from his post.
- Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth issued a statement saying Phelan was leaving his post with immediate effect.
- Phelan had addressed a large gathering of sailors and industry representatives at the Navy’s annual convention in Washington DC a day earlier and discussed his agenda with reporters.
- However, according to sources, there were continuous differences between Phelan and the top leadership of the Pentagon for the last few months.
- Phelan was one of the major donors to Trump’s election campaign and founded the private investment firm Rutger Management LLC.
- Phelan was sworn in as Navy Secretary on March 24, 2025.
- Hung Kao, the current Under Secretary of the Navy, has been appointed acting Navy Secretary in Phelan’s place.
- The US Defense Department has also suspended Andrew Hughes, a senior officer associated with the Nuclear Department, on charges of leaking information.
- Earlier on April 2, Army Chief Randy George was removed from the post.

On November 27, 2024, President Trump announced the name of John Phelan for the post of Secretary of the Navy.

5. Secretary of the Ministry of External Affairs met the UN Secretary
On 23 April, Sibi George, Secretary (West), India’s Ministry of External Affairs, met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.
- This meeting between George and Guterres took place during the official visit of Secretary Sibi George to the United Nations Headquarters.
- In this meeting, George also presented India’s side in the general debate of 2026 ECOSOC i.e. United Nations Economic and Social Council.
- India-UN development partnership was also discussed in the conversation between George and Guterres.
- In this meeting, there was discussion on strengthening multilateral cooperation, in which issues like peace keeping, sustainable development and climate change were discussed.
- Along with this, global and regional issues were discussed in the meeting. In this, issues related to geo-political tension and human concerns i.e. hunger, poverty, education and health were discussed.

UN Reforms and Global South were also discussed in this meeting.
